600 Gallon Upgrade Build

Hey it looks like I may be too late on this since I see the CDX plywood. If you want to go the extra mile and spring for another sheet I would go with 3/4 oak plywood not CDX. Although CDX is better with water the oak is allot flatter and straighter which is why the plywood and foam is used. Unfortunately I know this because of a cracked tank! The oak is also allot harder so if something is even off by 1/32 or 1/16 the oak will remain flat and not flex at all and let the foam adjust so there is no stress on the tank.

For reference, this is the 4 x 8 plywood I used.

Not sure if I read this but was e tank scratched when you got it? How easy was it to get the scratches out?
I'm considering acrylic for my next tank and am curious as SO many ppl are opposed to it for its ease of scratching.

Yes it was, very scratched. I tried to buff for a month but then I just ended up paying someone to finish the job as it was to much on my back. Only advantage of acrylic it that it is extremely light and clearer but does scratch a whole lot faster than glass.

So whats next wayne??? I am getting very excited for both you and Dustin.

At the moment I am still researching equipment that will be some ease of use. I hung out with Tony Vargas yesterday. That is a real passionate man and was interested in my build and threw a few suggestions my way. Very humble kind of guy.

I finalized the stand. I painted the inside white with 3 coats of Killz primer/sealant. I then added a shower liner to further waterproof the stand. I used this type of nail to hold the liner.

I formed the liner and tacked the outside about every 12 inches.

And on the inside vertically.

Looking great Wayne. Tony seemed like a nice guy at MACNA, really small world here with Reefs when it comes to vendors/hobbyist...

My DT acclimation box is finished. I have to thank dca because its his idea. The box is 20"L x 12"W x 12"H. It will be suspended by two 3/4 inch PVC.

Cut out a door and it's dual purpose, could serve as a good fish trap in the future if the fish becomes a problem. Would also make it easy to release the fish once acclimated.

Thanks Wayne. I ask because I have the chance to get a good acrylic 48/48/24 new tank and love the thought of lug and the dimensions. Price wise the only cheaper tank I can find w the same dimensions is glasscages

You are welcome. Glad I could help. Glass is always cheaper than acrylic. Each one has their pluses and minuses. You have to do what is right for your pockets and family.

I can get the acrylic one about as cheap as glasscages. From there the next offer is 2700$ for a 48/48/24 cube
