600 Gallon Upgrade Build

Yeah me to Wayne. My quote list was as follows
GC 900$ plus holes delivery overflow etc about 1500$
Acrylic from a reputable builder 1600
Miracles 2700 to my door
Then it went up to about 5000 delivered. Never heard back from reefsavvy or leemar on tanks. Also waiting on reply from guy in Atlanta.
Am I missing anyone????

A.G.E. If youre going to go with glass hands down they are the ones you want. Great work and customer service. For acrylic, try Nextreef. I never knew that they do custom tanks and sumps until I was on their site one day looking at their reactors.

Nextreef is about an hour away from me. We had a reef meeting at their facility and I saw some of what the magic happens there.

I've contacted A.G.E and waiting for a quote from my local supplier. I'm guessing not cheap tho and I've heard some horror stories of many many months of build time.
I live 20 minutes from a pretty good acrylic worker. I'm just not sure acrylic is what I really want. I am debating

My main display was made by AGE. The quality of their workmanship and their customer service is fantastic!

In my opinion you cant go wrong either way. It just depends on what makes you more comfortable. I am sure you will make the right decision.

So Wayne if you could get the same tank in glass or acrylic for about the same money which would you choose?
The thing is I can get a great made acrylic tank(local guy w a little experience :D )or take a shot with glasscages and their customer service and build quality for about the same money.
Or double the price for glass from another builder

I would choose acrylic hands down. Reason being is that yes it will scratch but it also can be buffed out. I can't say the same about glass because I have never heard of glass getting buffed out.

Just my .02 here....the tank is the heart of the system and this just isnt a 50g system youre talking about. If a seam gives or panel cracks youre going to have a lot of water on the floor and lose a lot of money in live stock. I would say spend the extra mo.ey for a quality tank. I know the more expensive tanks can have issues too but they usually come with excellent customer service.

Very well said Steve. I don't know what his budget. As you stated both glass or acrylic can pop a seam and that'll be a whole lot of water on the floor. Just do what you feel comfortable B.

I totally understand the quality thing.
Glasscages builds more tanks then anyone so they have more failures.
I like coast to coast but don't have 5100$ to get the tank built and shipped to me
Miracles is 2700 delivered which is a great deal but lately I have heard mixed reviews on them
I'm still waiting on MRC and reefsavvy to get in contact w me.
I live next door practically to a good acrylic guy that will build me one
Corey

Talk to the acrylic guy. Cant hurt. Reef Savvy makes good tanks as I just saw a rimless they built for a fellow reefer. You might have to wait 3 months but from the craftsmanship I would go for it.

I did lots of research when I bought tank but ended up getting a used but never filled tank from manufacturer that no longer is in business....But I did research all of the manufacturers.

A.G.E. hands down for glass.
Reef Savvy hands down for rimless glass.
Acrylic you have a few good options.

I would not go to glasscages, I've never seen a quality tank by them and in the grand scheme of things, the tank is the CHEAP part;)

Nah the acrylic guy has experience with acrylic that isn't a concern of mine. I did get a quote from my reef creations and its fair priced but shipping will kill me!!
Yeah I hear the wait for Felix is forever but worth it.
A.G.E I'm having trouble getting a quote from my local supplier as they say yet don't use them anymore. So really it looks like process of elimination for me leaves me w am acrylic tank to replace my current 220!
I'm sure my guy can't wait to get started on the tank as tanks aren't his first choice of build options

Did I or Did I Not Screw Up?

Did I or Did I Not Screw Up?

Placed the sump under the stand. My calculations are seriously off. Might have to go with an internal skimmer. Planned on having a refugium and auto top off tank in addition to the sump. Looks like more custom work to be done. Very poor planning on my part.
