I know but I have a fear in pools considering that i almost drowned in the child side during some army training back in the day.

Thanks North. Surgery should be fine. I have a great group of reefers willing to assist me while I am recovering. Good thing this tank isnt up yet. I wonder that since with the present system I do 50 gallon water changes between two tanks weekly that what would go through their head if had to do 100 gallon water changes.
I try to keep the build simple but with something this large its hard to follow that strategy. Alot of it I over think and some times something good does come out of it. Since Dustin has his tank up and running I think I am getting close to having the most posts for and empty tank build.
I was going to build it but with further discussion with my reef therapist and other fellow reefers, I should leave this one for the big boys. I am planning for MACNA if my recovery doesnt take a turn for the worse.

Wayne, good luck with the knee surgery. Hope all goes well and love the tank build. I like the depth. I wish I had done mine a few inches shallower for better light penetration.

Hey Wayne, things have been a little chaotic here so I am just getting caught up on your thread. I just looked at your mixing containers and the video. There's guy close to where we are moving to in SC that is selling a bunch of food grade 225g containers like what you have for $100 each. I just sold my two 75g containers so I am thinking about getting those . Are you happy with them?
It is ok... I have seen many with pink arm floaties because a DI/DS wanted to make sure they did not drown. :lmao:

Thanks TJ. The good thing is that its not major but minor enough. Still trying to figure out how I tore a meniscus and ACL at the same time.
I was catching up on your thread and congratulation on the sale. I know you have been busy so off and on I have been reading on your situation and glad it had positive results.
Thats funny because I paid the same for mine except I got 50 more gallons per container. It makes things a whole lot easier having fresh water all the time. My reason for purchasing so large is if worse case scenario something happens I am able to do a 50% water change on the spot. I also learned that when mixing salt for water changes, the longer the unused salt sits the more inconsistent it is. So now I can mix 200 gallons a shot or to the salinity I need and I always test and if its off I can add water at any point and time.

Whatever you do, just find out what they previously had stored in them. Many times these are used to store foods but if they are selling these washed out and don't know what they previously stored pass on it. If they know then it's a good investment if you have the space. They post these all the time on CL in my area and you can pick up fairly cheap. They would have not worked out well in my garage but was contemplating storing outside but then decided I'd likely have issues with it in the winter freezing.

That situation happened to a buddy of mine but on a way smaller scale. He needed to do a water change on his tank and didn't have any buckets so he went to an LFS. They said they had buckets that were food grade that stored lemonade and they were rinsed and cleaned. So they filled the bucket and he went home and did his water change. 2 days later 90 of his corals were dead, mostly brand name SPS. He tested the water multiple times and all numbers were correct. He even had a well known reefer follow up on his results and they had the same results. Then he went to the bucket he used to change the water it smelled like bleach and pine sol. No BS either, it reeked. He went back to the LFS and told him the situation but the LFS didn't even want to work with him. He couldn't check the bucket before he used it because the owner or employee filled the bucket with saltwater.
When I got mine I soaked the heck out of them with bleach for a week, then did it again with white vinegar, and then regular water. So far so good and not unsightly deaths. My wallet took a major hit when the water bill came but that didn't matter as long as I had a piece of mind.

Sorry for the late update but I haven't been feeling well as of late. Monday I picked up a freebee. It's an AIO acrylic cube tank.
Yes it has scratches but this is the only downfall.
Measurements are 20Lx 20W x 15H and came with a power head
and protein skimmer.
I made a stand and applies about 4-5 coats of Killz. And I did a wet test and there are no leaks.

Looks good. Have fun buffing. Should really not be too bad for that sized tank. What you going to re-purpose it as? Last night I chopped up a "project tank" I got for nothing as I had no idea what I was going to do with it and figured I'd rather have the 2'X2' sheets of acrylic for another project rather than messing with it being in the way in the garage!

Your experiences from the start of the build to the finish will be an encyclopedia of knowledge on how to creat something incredible with blood, sweat, and tears.
A blog/article on the experience would be so valuable to the community when you reach the finish line (if there is such a thing with this hobby)
I know this build has been and will be an ispiration for many to go after it if they want it!
I am looking forward to following through the rest of this with you, and excited about all the great input you will have for me.

That tank is for the fish. This will be for corals.
I just did it for piece of mind but yes basically its overkill. I don't like the streaks and I just keep painting until its all white.
Sorry to keep you up late but I will make it up to you in the end. You can say there was some investment in blood, sweat, and tears but its something that continues in this hobby. As for a blog, it sounds good but I am not good in keeping things like that or rather I am just selling myself short.
I hope to inspire and set the example of how patience pays off in the end. If they can achieve as big as mine or bigger, better yet upgrade from their previous system, shows great motivation and determination. I have slacked in those areas many times during this build but fellow reefer have always supported me and had my back even knowing what I have been through.
I will be keeping an eye on your build and if I see any ideas from my build you will be hearing from my lawyer. Just playing, I would be truly honored.
