600 Gallon Upgrade Build

Take care Wayne.. Glad surgery went well.. rest is what is needed for a bit longer Just lay down and enjoy your tanks man,... glad to hear you got some real friends that will take care of the water changes..

Looking good!! It's been a while since I was on the forum and I had to go back several pages just to get caught up! I am glad things are back on track for you!

Thanks for back tracking. I use your tank as a reference to see how many fish I can keep before the nitrates and phosphates get high. I dont think I will make it to the 70 fish mark but I will be in the ball park give or take a few.

I love my reef club. They have been there for me through all my recent surgeries (both knees and the recent hernia).

This hobby can't be enjoyed at max, without having good friends on your side!
Glad you have them there for you wayne and i hope you will get well soon:beer:

Hey Wayne I missed the details on your knees. My wife has just undergone, three days ago, two knee replacements simultaneously. Need to know your story and how did it go afterwards

Thanks gIaukos. I am getting better. Still on doctors order to not lift anything. So I have more time to focus on my tank and do some tweaking.

I had meniscus surgery done on both knees. The later was in July on my left knee except my acl was damages to so recovery took longer. Just tell her to relax and take it easy. Don't try anything. Sit back and heal.

Nitrates - 2.5 ppm(Salifert) < 2ppm (Red Sea Test Kit)
Phosphates - .0 ppm (Hanna) ~.0 ppm (Red Sea Test Kit)
Calcium - 440 ppm (Salifert) 440 ppm (Red Sea Test Kit)
Alkalinity - 9.2 dKh (Salifert) 9.2 dKh (Red Sea Test Kit) 9.1 dKh (Hanna)
Magnesium - 1200 ppm (Salifert) 1220 (Red Sea Test Kit)
Potassium - 390 (Salifert)

My concern is me just being to to hard on myself. If you look up and see my phosphates are 0 ppm and nitrates are 2.5 ppm. Why am I over thinking this or being hard on myself with these readings?

Wayne. Remember that talk we had about consistency? I wouldn't worry about those nitrates. You aren't going to have algae, so I would worry more about keeping those numbers right where they are. You're an amazing aquarist. I'd agree that you're just being hard on yourself, and needlessly stressing. I'd say, your tank is ready.

Hope you're doing well!

I have seen reef tanks do quite well with 5 ppm nitrates and over 0.3 ppm phosphates. You are really beating yourself up for nothing. Chill, dude. When is Florida expected to legalize? ;)

Man just reading about your surgery and everything else going on. Don't push yourself too much...and hopefully you will heal up quickly.

wayne I agree with what everyone else is saying. concentrate on keeping the numbers consistent and let your corals do the talking.

Thanks for the advice. I greatly appreciate it. I am doing quite well My health is like my tank, soon as I think something is wrong they say its perfectly normal for this to happen so I guess I just go with the flow.

I will chill. As for legalizing, even if they did I cant do it because I would lose my pension and compensation if I turn up positive. And the government wont prescribe it to me anyway because they believe it is legal.

Surgery went well. Its the after affects that are happening that they didnt go into detail at post op. They said everything is normal and it will pass.

I will Steve. Just happy and in shock all at the same time.

Enjoy your hard work. If corals are happy then tests are an indicator at where the corals like it.

I will Osama.

I added a 2nd protein skimmer to my setup. This one is skimming dry while the other one skims wet.

I've see a few build running their system this way so I'd thought I'd give it a try. What's the worse that could happen?

You could over-skim your tank. This will usually affect your soft corals first, but can eventually start to affect hard corals, too, by removing too many nutrients from the water. It will definitely end any chance of keeping sponges if you had a mind to.

Hope you make a full recovery Newbie. I m agoing through something similar. I had a neck injury over 10 years ago, and I opted for epidural steroid injection to kill the nerve. Well I reinjured it 4 weeks ago, and just had my MRI done 3 days ago, waiting for results. Doctor gave me the same 3 options they gave me 10 yrs ago, Physical Therapy, Steroidal injection or surgery. So I have something to really think about, also I'm not getting any younger so I really need to think this through. Its so damn painful, every time I tilt my head back or tilt to the right, pain radiates down my arm to my fingers like getting stabbed by thousand pins.

not derail wayne's thread or turn this into an aches and pain forum but i am dealing with the same issue Robert. My neck and arm started bothering me back in july and I had the mri done. I cant remember which disc it is but its badly herniated. They surgery was my only option so I did pt and anti inflamatory meds for 8 weeks. I took naproxin, did put 3x a week and had my last pt session back in January....I am happy to say I have been pain free since then.
