6025 Probs

I just bought two 6025s from Marinedepot. One only seems to spin in reverse and the other chatters as the propeller jumps around. I have unpluged them and taken the propellers out and put them back in multiple times but they just go back to what they have been doing. Like a couple of drunk monkeys. Let me know if anything else can be done before they get sent back. Thanks for the help.

They should be fairly new pumps from newer production runs. The most common cause on a new pump is they used too much vaseline in the test run and this gummed up the movement of the drive unit. On start up the prop should jump out and correct its rotation, this will take about 3-4 seconds at most depending on your voltage. The pumps work on anything from 102 to 130 volts with 115-125 being ideal. The lower the voltage the longer the start up jumping around. Assuming your voltage is OK I would just try to wipe any excess vaseline off the base of the drive unit and get what you can off the shaft. Once running correctly they should run continuously for at least a week to get the proper wear in before starting any sort of timed intervals.

Thanks, the pump that was running backwards runs fine now, but the other one is still jumping around. I've tried it in the same outlet as the other pump and it still wont work. I also cleaned any vaseline off the base. Any thing else I can try?

So now the pump that was jumping around is working, but its seems to only work when it is parallel with the bottom of the tank. Its also still has a light click to it every once and awhile.

The pump went back to clicking and jumping around and then it just started moving really slow and hardly pushing any water. Should I send it Tunze or back to Marinedepot?

Can we try one last thing? Try using the prop assembly (drive unit 6025.70) from your working pump. My guess is this part may have a defect, if so we can just send a new drive unit. It would be fastest if you sent it back to me, the next day we would send a new pump if it was not something simple like the drive unit.

After changing out the prop assembly (drive unit 6025.70) from my working pump, and putting it in the non-working pump it seemed to work flawlessly. I think you are correct about that part having a defect. Let me know what to do next, and thanks for the great service.

PM me your name and address and we will send a new drive unit, just out of curiosity, did you see what was wrong with it, maybe an uneven prop blade (one side shorter than the other) or a tight fit on the shaft?
