6045 Problem

I have a pair of 6045s and one has managed to lock the steel shaft into the motor block. I have soaked it for several days in vinegar but it is still stuck. Any suggestions? The pump starts hard and has a vibration to it that is pretty loud. I also noticed considerable wear on the rear thrust washer. What can be done with it?

When you say the shaft is stuck on the motor block, do you mean you cannot pull it out? If so this is the way it should be, some early ones had problems with the shaft coming free which the hole the shaft was seated in was shrunk ever so slightly in later revisions to fix this. The washer was from memory orginally white plastic, then changed to stainlesss, now is graphite.... not sure if that could be causing the noise. Does one of the two have the shaft that comes out?

Rodney will likely have an idea tomorrow if he gets online.... Roger is on his was to MACNA asnd will be offline for a bit.

Well the one that runs quiet is the one that the shaft comes out of. The one with the frozen shaft sounds horrible. I also noticed rust on the end of the magnet. Yes the shaft is stuck and it won't pull out. If i remember correctly they both came out when new.

Neither should come out and should be permanently affixed, the motor block that does have the loose steel shaft needs to be sent in for replacement. The other might be the washer but might be more. You could always send the working but noisey one in with the one that needs to be replaced for the guys to look over.

Send it/them to the following with a note in the box with your name, address and email/phone to

Send them both in for inspection and if need be we will replace them. Then shaft should never come out so one will be replaced for sure.
