Hi,
I have two 6045s and have been pretty happy with them. Not sure exactly how long I've had them but I got them right after they first came out - I remember waiting for them to be released - so I'm thinking the warranty has probably expired. The problem is that startups have become increasingly unpredictable. Typically one or the other starts up in reverse and sometimes there is a long delay from when I turn them on until they start moving water (i.e. it won't start up but when I check the tank later its working fine). Sometimes I can jumpstart it by poking the propeller with a stick. Sometimes they makes a loud clackety noise while deciding whether to start up in forward or reverse. One of them is finickier than the other about going in reverse and the other has the startup delay more often, but they both have similar problems and are getting worse. They both work fine once they get going.
I have cleaned the propeller/drive units and they appear intact. Also cleaned the hole in the motor block with a q-tip. The metal shafts appear intact and the drives spin freely on them. I've run them in vinegar solution several times to remove calcium deposits but that hasn't helped the startup problems the last couple of times I've done that. Are there some replacement parts I can get to help it work better? I checked the Tunze website and I'm wondering if I get new drive units (6025.700) and/or discs (6025.740) would that solve the problem? I don't think mine have the discs. Unfortunately I am unable to send them in for repair.
Thanks,
Robert
