6055 shaft came out, what order does it go back together?

Hello,

I was cleaning my 6055 which is a little less than a year old and the metal shaft came out. It must have vibrated its way out over time - odd. I put it back in and it seems pretty firmly seated, but the pump does fail to start every few times. My question is, what order do the washers go in? I put the stainless one on the bottom and the plastic one on top. The pump does make a little noise now whereas before it was dead silent. I'm wondering if I put the washer in the wrong order.

Thanks in advance!

What color is the washer, black or white? We had a few layouts over time. The order will depend on the color. The shaft should be firmly seated in the pump. What I typically see from pumps that are sent in is the drive unit was cemented to the shaft by calcium and a combination of the heat generated and pulling hard to exrtact the drive unit, removed the shaft. If the shaft will press in firmly it can usually be reused but tap it in gently with a small hammer.

My drive unit wasn't that tight, it popped right out. I was just cleaning it as periodic maintenence to get the alage off the output grill.

There is the thin stainless washer and a black graphite looking thicker bushing. I assume this is the part that should wear against the drive unit. The drive unit has the white prop.

Thanks again

All have white props but a black graphite bushing should be against a black based drive unit, the oldest ones were white top to bottom except the magnet itself. In this layout the stainless steel disk was at the bottom under the graphite disk. Tap the shaft in firmly with a tacking hammer.

Hi Roger,

I asked you back in "10/31/2008 10:09 PM" about how to replace an old 6055 driver (white) with a new 6055 driver (black) and I didn't fully understand your response:

The black drive unit uses graphite reinforced plastic, and the disk is made of the same material. The latest 6025.74 is double thick so you need only one but you must remove the older stainless steel and nylon disk which is not so easy. You need a pick or tweezers or fine needle nose pliers to extract the disk.
I've been following the various "6055 clicking" and similar threads to try and get a better understanding. Your response below adds more clarity:

But it seems to me that my "old" 6055's (I have 4 of them) only had a SS disk ... I don't ever recall seeing the white nylon disk. Based on your response above, the white nylon disk should have been found between the SS disk and the driver, is this correct?

I've gone out and bought a white nylon disk (6025.740) and I have a black driver (6055.700) and still have the SS disk ...in what order should I reassemble the pump?

thanks

The white nylon disk is underneath the stainless steel disk and is not easily removed, it stays on the shaft at the bottom of the hole. When you upgrade to a black drive unit you should just remove the stainless steel disk and install a black disk on top of the existing white disk.

hi Roger,

What is the part number of the black disk (is it still 6025.740)?

Until I get the black disks, how would you suggest I configure the black driver with the existing pump parts (just use the white disk + SS disk?)?

thanks for the help again.

Can you PM me your info and I will just mail you a couple black disks. Where did you get the white disks, we haven't had those in about a year now?
