6065 starting backwards

Congratulations Roger. I hope your wedding was a huge success.

I have a 6065 on a Reefkeeper Elite controller that gets turned off once or twice a day for 5 minutes for feeding. Recently I have noticed it starting backwards on occasion. Any ideas why this would be happening? The pump is 100% stock.

There are 5 possible causes.

1) The magnet is jammed to the shaft by calcium deposits or sand, it needs to be able to both spin and easily slide back and forth on the shaft.

2) The propeller is broken, check the ends for any missing sections or damage.

3) The front cover has 4 stop tabs that maybe damaged, these are in the inside and what the propeller slides forward and hits if it spins backwards.

4) The voltage is outside the critical operating range of 102-132V. 107-127V is the ideal where no issues will occur, in the more extreme ends of the range they may struggle to correct direction but should within 20 seconds.

5) At some point the drive unit was disassembled and the disk was inverted so it is on the front of the prop/magnet instead of the back.
