6080 Dead?

Hi Roger,
I have two 6080s that have been in service for 16 years, almost non-stop :) Wondering when they'll make their last spin. So one of them tripped my GFIC. Each time I plug it in it trips the GFIC. I've learned from other equipment this could be the kiss of death. Nothing changed, it was running as usual. Noticed it wasnt running anymore but still plugged in. Unplugged, reset GFI, and each time I plug it in the GFI trips.

Thoughts?

I would tend to agree, usually this would mean there is a short in the motor coil, typically from overheating and swelling, or the thermal safety switch failing. There is a slight chance that it is just a stuck drive unit or some minor mechanical issue, but none of these mechanical parts are available any longer. You could try swapping the drive units and see if it works, but I don't know where you could find a new 6080.600 drive unit.

thanks as always for the quick response roger. I'm so happy to have gotten 16 years out of it. the other is still humming. they always have done a great job on my 220g reef tank. so guess will have to go shopping for a new setup. With Tunze at the top of my list!
