6095 on Elos 160

Anybody here use a 6095 on an Elos 160? Any problems with the magnet holding on? The thickness of the glass is listed at 15mm, .59 inches and the magnet is rated at .60 so it should be okay, right? I'm having a really hard time deciding between the 6095 and the 6105 due to price and size.

It should hold but weakly, if a sharp angle is put on the pump it would likely fall, simply swapping the outside magnet for the extension 6025.501 is all you need to do to get up to 3/4". If you could tell me dimensions and inhabitants, I could better advise which to choose.

Dimensions are 63x22.5x23.6, 145 gallons. I'm planning a mixed reef, sps, lps. Is the magnet the same between the 6095 and 6105? Would I need an extension for both? How much bigger physically is the 6105 than the 6095? Thanks again for your fast replies.

6095= raquetball sized
6105= softball sized

You would need an extension for either one most likely though the 6105 magnet is marginally stronger so it may work with more angle. Unless it will be heavy on SPS, 2 6095 is what I would go with.

I thought the softball comparison seemed a little big so I looked it up. A standard softball is 3.8-inches in diameter. The 6105 is smaller, 3.5" diameter.

Thanks, yes, a softball is a bit bigger, but the closest common object I could relate it to.

Ok, I think I'm going to go with 2 6095's. One in each back upper corner pointed towards the front glass pane. Hopefully that will give me some good random flow patterns in the front half of the tank. If I find I have dead areas I can address them later.

I think they will do a good job and if you were to need more, my suggestion would be a 6208 Wavebox.

So would a 6208 wavebox on one end and a single 6095 on the opposite work better than dual 6095's? Would the 6095 plug into the 6208 and synch with that? Would the wavebox stress the panels and cause seam failure?

The dual 6095's should be the basis of the flow, you want those to produce a directional current and the 6208 would produce an additional wave current which is very effective at getting to dead spots behind rock work, but the flow lacks direction it is just a lift and suspend wave and they work together very well but one shouldn't replace the other and the directional current is more critical in most cases.

Yes, any sort of wave or surge flow that results in a shifting of weight reduces tank life, however, a well made tank will "last" for 20-25 years. But likely be scratched, etched, and just generally damaged beyond where you would keep it after 10-15, the loss of 10-15% of its life at the end is not very consequential as a result, if it is a well made name brand tank, properly installed on a sturdy, level stand, I would not worry about it.

Gotcha. I'll stick to my original plan of 2 6095's and add a wavebox when I can. Thanks again for all your timely advice.
