6100 Stream Noise

Hi,
Just bought 2 new 6100 Streams. They have been running for about 2-week now and are still quite noisy. I'm not sure if its bearing noise or vibration being transmitted through the magetic mounts.
Any advice?

Many thanks,
Paul

Do you have the rubber feet on the magnet mounts? Have you checked that the bush bearing is fully inserted- this is the collar around the hole that the magnet/prop assembly sits in. It often slides out in transit, I recommend prying it out and rotating 180 degrees and reinserting it, it only goes in 2 ways.

Is there anything you can put under a submersed pump (in your sump) to dampen the hum of its vibration?

You could try a piece of rubber, auto stores usually sell cut your own gasket kits with a sheet of rubber in them, a mousepad without a printed cloth surface would probably be safe as well, or a sheet of thick neoprene.

I carefully prized out the bush last night, turned it 180 degrees and re-inserted it. I put the impeller assmebly back in (underwater to ensure no air bubbles could get trapped). The result was no change in noise.
Both streams are giving a similar noise level and vibration. This does get quieter/louder with their speed, but doesn't seem to be any kind of resonance.
The tank has only been up and running for two weeks, so its still early, but do you have any other suggestions?

Thanks,
Paul

I'll keep my eye out for a plain, unprinted mousepad, then. That sounds like it's worth a try. Thanks!

I might give it a bit more time but if it doesn't improve I would contact Gary at Tunze UK, he would probably need to change the drive unit, from my experience this would be a loose fitting bush bearing.
