6105 Wide Flow

Hi Roger,

I currently have the wide flow nozzles installed on my two 6105s. I looked at the specs, and it seems that the 6255 standard nozzle is the same diameter, with a larger opening.

Is this the case? I'm looking to further spread the flow from my 6105s (my tank is 60"x27.5"x27.5") and was hoping I could just get two of the 6255 nozzles. I'm using two 6105s pointed at each other along the length of the tank, and two MP-40s on the back glass facing forward.

Thanks!

If your 6105's have the fixed shaft design, you can use the 6255.130 front housing. It will not work if these are older 6105's with the removable shaft as the 6255.130 has no attachment point for the other end of the shaft.

Thanks Roger - I've got the newer ones so it should work.

Have you had any experience with doing this? Does it work well or is it not worth the expense?

My hesitation would be based on two points-

The flow will be very wide, but also very short, cut the reach you get now in half, if that is what you are looking for, it is a good way to go.

The 6255.130 lacks the structural rigidity of the less open front housings, it fits looser and can be prone to coming loose.

Thanks Roger, I'll think about it, but it sounds like it would allow me to put corals pretty close to the pump, which would be great.

Hi Roger,

So I ended up ordering the two 6255 housing to try them out. All I can say is WOW. With no other changes, at 100%, it looks like a sandstorm. Before, I didn't really see much movement at all. It's night and day. My tank is 60x27x27 or so, and even at 60% it's too much. I'm going to have to turn them down even more. But the flow is much better: wider and less intense around the powerhead.

I'd recommend this to anyone with a 6105!

Just keep in mind they will not work on a 6105 made before Nov 2011 with the removable shaft design.
