6200 not working.

About a week ago the alarm went off on one of my 6200s. I took the pump out of the tank and inspected it. There was a small amount of calcium build up on the pump, but it had only been 2 months since its last cleaning, so it was nothing major. I soaked the pump in venigar and cleaned it up. When I put the pump back in the tank it seemed to work fine. 5 or six days later the alarm sounded again when the pump came out of feed mode. I checked to see if the pump was clogged in any way. The propellor wasn't spinning freely, so i removed it and then reinserted it after a quick rinse. I then turned the pump back on and it worked for about 10 seconds. Then it stopped again. At that point i smelled something burning and determined it was coming from the driver. The driver was also incredibly hot to the touch. I then unplugged the unit from the wall and have not messed with it since.

Is the pump or the driver defective? What do I need to do to get it fixed? The 6200 constitutes half of my tank's flow, and I don't want to wait a week or more to have the problem resolved.

Thanks in advance
Brad

It is most likely the driver. If you send me the pump we generally finish a repair within 24hrs, in the worst case it takes 72hrs. As long as it did not get wet it will be warranty. I strongly suspect that you overlooked the interface of the upper bearing and the magnet rotor, that is usually what causes what you describe, the rotor is then dragging the upper bearing rather than spinning on it smoothly. As a result the driver was overloaded, in such instances you get one freebie but you need to make sure that this part is clean in the future. This is only speculation but it is the usual cause of what you describe and it is not technically warranty since cleaning would have prevented it.

Thanks Roger. I'll send the pump to you tonight. Do you happen to have a picture of the interface of the upper bearing and magnet rotor? I try to clean all my pumps every other month, and I want to make sure that I am doing it right.

Thanks for the quick reply,

Brad

If you look at the thread I stickied at the top of this forum on the alarm feature and cleaning, I have a couple pictures. I just got a better camera and hope to update it soon with better pics.
