6x96W bulbs over a 135 enough for what?

wait till you get a clam!! that is absolutely the worst kind of crack there is. i bought a squamosa when i had pc's and after a couple of months i just had to have a maxima, then i had to have a crocea, then i had to have a halide, then two halides, then another max.......ect.. now i have 26 clams and always seem to find room for one or two more. i love this addiction!!

I paid 150 dollars for my retro 250w....

But I bought a ballast off some guy for 75 dollars with mogul socket and such, a XM bulb for 39 dollars ( a wierd story) and a reflector for 13 dollars on sale at hellolights.com

I paid half as much for my MH setup than I did for my 110w pc setup from my dumb LFS.:)

Thanks for the reply, I appreciate your answer. I believe my tank is right at 24" tall. But the clams, if I were to get them would only be about 6 to 8" from the surface. I am still going to try to find something I can modify to fit in some halides. I would think that double ended would fit well, unfortunately, ther would be no way to put a lens over the bulbs to protect from radiation.

OK, one thing that no one has mentioned here is the difference in color based on viewing angle of clams. If your clams are 6-8" from the top of your tank, it may be diffeicult, MAY be difficult to set them at an angle that allows premium viewing angle. Very simple examples from my 10 gal with 150w halide (clams were photographed a few hours after acclimation, so they were still a little stressed from shipping):

The diffence is even more pronounced no, as they have gotten brighter in color since they have settled in. Also, no actinics on this tank, either, just a 10kk DE bulb.

Also, I have just swapped out half of the lighting on my 65 gal tank. I replaced a 175 mogul based retro (which has the last facet of the reflector removed, as you inquired about earlier: works fine), with a 250 w PFO Mini Pendant. This has the uv shiiled in it and the shield is roughly 4-4.5" from the surface of the water. I have had no difference in the heat, and the pendant is great inside.

Here is an example of how the canopy used to be set up by the previous owner, with 3 mini pendants in it)
