Funny that you say that. The only one I have ever seen in my tank was 7 legs and I'm pretty sure it hitch hiked on a frogspawn I got at Exotic Fish and Corals. To add to it, half of it was black/red and the other half was white.

Does this mean that it's prepping itself to split or something? Or maybe it was damaged previously and it regrew funky. Neat find!

Wow - very cool - I can't even find one in my tanks that have 5 legs ... they all seem to have three!

Maybe we should put your 7-legged asterina with my 6-legged mini brittle star and see what we get. :)

please excuse the dirty glass its the tank i am waiting to break down. its not receiving at lot of attention in the mean time.

That is pretty cool. I have a few asterinas in my tank and never seem to find one with more than about 4 or 5 legs. I will bet you its gonna split soon especially were its 2 different colors. How cool would it be to catch it mid split and watch it happen or catch it on video? That would be awesome!

i have done research and i have the same in my tank from what i have read they do eat coral and they eat caroline algae but i havent seen it first hand. they reproduce very fast so good luck everytime i pull one out and put it in the sump 5 more pop up

there are supposedly two types one that will one that wont .personally i have never seen this. keep in mind sometimes people see a scavenger eating a piece of coral that was dieing and blame the scavenger . when in fact if the coral was healthy it wouldn't eat it.

I've got ones that eat coraline, but none that eat coral. If you look at the back of my tank, which I don't scrape, there's spots where the coraline has been taken off. I blame it on the stars
