i am trying to buy a 20k 70w bulb. what i would like to know is which bulb- ushio20k or ab20k is more whiter? i do not want too much blue like radiums.

but i just want the less of 2 evils here. just a lighter 20k. but if i did decide to go 14k what online stores have them?

There's a guy on NR.com who posts under Lamp Dr. whose got bulbs pretty cheap. Check out illuming.com. I know he carries the Ushio 14k and 20k 70W HQI bulbs.

While I have not seen one in person, I have heard that their bulbs tend to be a bit whiter than what you would think. Hence, the 20K bulbs look more like a Phoenix 14K and the 14K's look like a 10K. The Ushio might fit you needs since you want a 20K with a "whitish" tint.

ive been told the PAR from a 20k 70 watt MH is worth the effort. like herostar said, a 14k might be a better option (some 14k's are still fairly blue)

but as norcal99 said, every bulb maker has a different idea of
Kelvin ratings apparently.

i am not worryed about par too much. its going on a 10gal with just softies and zoos so it should be sufficent

ive got a 150 over my 10 gallon. there are alot more choices in 150w. XM 20k & Phoenix 14k are awesome 150w lamps. my tank has a lot of zoos and some other softies like mushrooms and a leather and all of them are doing great under my 150 xm 20k.

wow a 150 on a 10gal!!! thats sweet but you must need a chiller. my plan is to make a full canopy because i dont want ANY light to leak out into the room it will be in. thats why i am choosin a 70w halide, also another reason i dont want a 150 is dont like the look of a 12'' high canopy. plus already have retro just need bulb.
