WOW!!!
That tank is awesome, great work...
Lighting, husbandry, equipment... More information would be great, thanks for posting your work.
:)

Wow! This tank is well on it's way to being amazing. I love the anthias BTW! How are they eating?

Also, I see you have downgraded your flow? Any reasons?

WOW, what a turn around! In a years time you setup is going to be overrun with growth and awesomeness!

Thanks everyone for all your very kind words. A few days ago, I received an email from a reefkeeper expressing his regret that I had gotten out of the hobby after my crash so I thought this was an appropriate time to defend myself.

In a nutshell:

Tank: Approx 500g (96"x36"x36"), In wall, acrylic, barebottom. System in total is a little more than 650g including 125g sump and 40g 'LPS' tank.

Circulation: Split into upper and lower returns, each powered by a Reeflo Hammerhead pump. Upper return water exits via corner overflows, through 2" Durso standpipes then to sump and filter socks before being returned via 14 articulating Y nozzles at the top of the tank. Lower return water exits through 6 intakes drilled into the tank floor, again to socks, and returned via 8 Y nozzles at bottom of the tank behind the rockwork.

Water Movement: 7 Tunze Streams; 4x6205s, 2x6100s, 1x6200. Controlled by 3 (!) 7095s, each on a different channel and setting for as chaotic of flow as possible. Currently all are running at 80% or less of capacity.

'Wavemaker': Provided by a Georg Fischer EA 21 electric actuator valve. Run by an Iwaki 100 RLT. Set to alternate at about 45 second intervals.

Lighting: (3)xSfiligoi 400W Infinity Twin Pendants. (6)x Aqua Connect 400W 14K SE MHs. Powered by 6xSfiligoi ACLS electronic ballasts.

Skimmer: H&S 250-2x1260.

Calcium Reactor: MTC Power Pro. Media: ARM.

Kalk Reactor: Aquamedic Kalk Stirrer 5000. Dosed via Litermeter III.

Chiller: 1hp UMI.

RO/DI: SpectraPure 5-Stage. 90gpd.

GFO/Carbon Reactors: MTC. Media: Bulk Reef Supply Extra Capacity GFO/Rox 0.8 Carbon.

Ozone: Red Sea 100.

Denitrator: Korrallin.

UV: AquaMedic: 120W 3-stage.

The Anthias are eating well. Most are Bimacs; rarely a problem with those guys.

Flow is only downgraded a little. In the top shot, the powerheads were arranged in their 'pre-crash' positions. At this time, the tank was packed with many mature corals and much more LR so it required much more flow. Now, I've opted for a more open aquascape with tons of swimming room, consequently less flow needed to keep detritus in suspension. However, as several of the Tunzes are 'dialed down' a bit, I've given myself a lot of wiggle room when things begin to really fill in.

As for maintenance, I had a year long battle with both Valonia and Vermetid snails which required an extraordinary amount of work to eradicate. This included frequent water changes and detritus removal, manual extraction, aggressive skimming, etc. Now that this is pretty much behind me, I'm happy to have backed off a bit. I still do a 20% water change weekly though and siphon out the tank twice a month. Other than that, it's just the normal daily stuff: Keeping things clean, equipment checks and eyeballing the livestock. But then, I consider THAT the fun part.

Anyway, thanks for your questions. Feel free to ask more as it's still freezing here and I'm not going anywhere.

I remember thinking how awesome your last tank was years ago. For this one did you start out w/ all frags or were some of those mini-colonies? Currently looking at my tank full of tiny frags wondering how long things are gonna take before looking decent like yours. Thanks for sharing about your equipment and maintenance. It's good to have a idea of what works.

All frags, except one maricultured piece I picked up locally. And yes your tank will look silly for awhile packed full of them. But remember this time well because, like me, you'll soon be cursing yourself for mounting them so darn close to each other! Happy fragging. :D
