75 Gallon Pictures & Build Thread

Well it was almost a year ago I started research... started building a stand for a 55 gallon then cut it off.... decided to do a 75 gallon but that was only recent.... after a busy year it is finally fish time!

I have never done any kind of woodworking but it seems to be going ok.

Will add more pictures as build progresses.... this is my first tank stand so please go easy on me. :)

Boards on back are to protect outlet from any splash as well as hang surge protector bars.

For never doing any woodworking the stand is turning out pretty nice. Are you going to drill the tank or use hang on the back overflow?

Hi Fote,

I have a LifeReef Overflow so yes it will be a hang on back. I am going to use the 55 gallon tank i bought a while ago for my sump, so a big refugium is in the works.

Will post more pictures in a few days. Have more building to do in the next week.

More work today.... worked on the canopy.. quite tired... the sides stick out just a tiny bit on angles but it should be covered with a trim at the end so I'm not too worried. Still need to place a backing on the back and hinges.

I just noticed that the lifereef overflow can't sit up that high on the wood and needs to sit on the rim of the tank.... now I have to cut a piece off of the rectangle frame hmm...

Well finished the stand so far... all I need is trim, doors, etc.... side panel is also finished but haven't hinged that on yet. Lot of work so far! Also have overflow and return pump hooked up (not in photo).

Going to test for water leaks with tap water.... then remove and use RO/DI for main tank water (when I order one).... and for some reason images are not working in Photobucket...

Well I did a water test..... still am.... no leaks... tank is leaning backwards on an angle of about 1/8th.... half of 1/4 inch... so I'm not too worried... you can't even notice a difference unless you really study it.

I had my return pump plugged into a ground surge protector and didn't know what the red button on the surge bar did... it was below "ground" (in green) and "protected" (in red).

The button was red in color and I pressed it and my return pump jumped about 5 inches off the floor in the sump..... must of been a shock of some sorts? Happened twice... anyways not using that surge bar. Pump is ok...

My question is........ I have a picture here of an empty faucet I can use for an RO/DI unit.... can someone please tell me if the picture of my tap is ok to use with these two items? I appreciate all the help.

Could someone also tell me how to quiet the vibration of the return pump on the sump floor? I know you can put something under it but I forget what it was.

Thanks

are you using pvc pipe for returns. Is so cut a foot out of the return line and insert plastic tubing in.The tubing absorbs the sound and the vibration

I also have a piece of filter foam under the pump itself

Thanks Cap'n... appreciate the help from another local :)

Could you possibly take a picture of the foam you are using so I get a better idea? Name/where to purchase?

I am using vinyl tubing for most of the return... pvc is attached at the pump to control flow (which was a good thing because on max it almost overflowed)
