Do you wash off your gloves after them being in the tank? Or do you simply take one glove off, then use a bare hand to take the other off?

rinse the gloves under the tap, then take them off

As for the polyps, I just grab them as low as I can on them and tweezer them off.

Is it possible that a black and white striped pipefish could have survived a trip in live rock without water? I swore I saw a tiny little pipefish like creature today with stripes..... haven't seen it again since.

Also going to order Tigger-Pods soon to start preparing for a mandarin later down the road.

Will a blood fire shrimp be ok without being fed for 2-3 days? Have to leave this weekend for a couple of days.

Thank You Cap'n. Good to have you around for answers. Will post updates next week.

not a problem--enjoy your vacation

Ok fellas.... all is well.... except a hair algae problem.. it's overatking everything... i'm running 24/7 lighting now on the chaeto to help combat it a bit.... any tips on getting rid of it? (other than ripping it out... harder done than said)

Can I cut it with scissors then put a bunch of snails on the rock to finish up?

? adjust flow, reduce the source of the algaes food? Removing is one thing but you should find where the source is from. Or in my nanos case (nothing was in there but sand and rock) I just turned off the lights and in a couple days ALL of the algae was gone and tons of pods were crawling all over the glass, sand, and rock.

I'll give it a try tim thank you. I am looking at ordering tigger-pods... will these guys eat the algae as well and will it affect the shrimp/snails I have int he tank if ligths are off?

I have used those tigger pods and they are a quick way to up the pod count. They do reproduce nicely but not a huge impact on the algae. I think the lights out and upgraded pump was the real reason my algae went away.

Ok i'm doing lights out for 3-5 days with some light time in between. I took the chaeto from my sump and put it in a cup.... placed it in the main tank and let it float loose while giving it a good shake..... checked the DT now and its pods galore :D

I can see them all over the place... I take it they have plenty to eat seeing as how my tank is loaded with hair algae.

Also today was day 1 of no lights to combat the hair algae and I see some of the strands are turning white.... does this mean they are dying?

Have you tried adding an extra phosphate sponge or phosphate filter pad somewhere to help rid the hair algae? Also, a partial water change every week may help until its gone. Unless your still Cycling.

Yep they have plenty to eat. But when I added a tiny bit of phyto to my tank I noticed a increase in the larger ampipods (sp?). The big flea looking ones. I only added a tiny bit once a week.

Thanks cap'n. Well my nitrates are in check. So I assume this is the remnants of the cycle bloom before the coraline algae. I have lights turned off, chaeto with lights 24/7 and the problem seems to be dwindling. I will go to the store and pick up some more chaeto tommorow, along with removing some of the algae if I can.

Will scissors be harmful to put in the tank to cut it up and remove it?

Use clean scissors and I don't see a problem with it. About the Chaeto on 24/7 you may want to put at least 8 hours of no light in there. This macro algae may be different but if I remember my botany correctly photosynthesis requires light as well as no light time periods.
