75 Gallon Pictures & Build Thread

Wow, nice coves and overhangs. Do you know what you're going to put on top of it on that nice flat rock, sps?
How about under it on the tank bottom, that ledge will make a nice shady spot for some low light corals or a zoa garden.

Thanks Iridescentlily :) I am not sure what type of coral I was planning to put on that flat rock (reminds me of an extinct volcano)... the vote seems to be for SPS...can anyone tell me why specifically? Not that I mind.

I'm not sure of the Zoas yet, because of the debate with them spreading and also the fact they can cause serious sickness from the palytoxins... so we'll see.

I still don't know what to do about the shrimp. Can someone please tell me if I can remove it from the tank now since I have an ammonia reading?

Thank You

salt water can be stored for quite awhile as long as you keep a power head in for circulation.
However I have found if I use the plastic garbage can for a few months---just storing salt water for two weeks and then using 8/10 of it, I start to get precipitation on the bottom of it.
Now I mix up 25 gal of ro water and leave it till 2 days before the water change, heat it and and the salt to 1.026

IMO as long as you have ro water on hand you can mix salt into it pretty quick for an emergency so there is no point at storing the salt water itself for an extended time

It's a big flat area up at the top of the tank. Lots of light and you can put nice strong (but random) flow there. Mosts SPS thrive in that type of an environment, but keep in mind that is a broad generalization as I just have a couple frags going (they seem to be doing well). But keep what you want! Thanks for the photos.

some nice acroporas would do great on that flat rock

Frick!!

I just saw something growing out the sand and it looks like Aiptasia... it's wickedly tiny... smaller than an eraser on a pencil... I'm not sure if I can get a picture that small.

Does aiptasia grow out the sandbed?

I had one growing one a heater! So I guess so. I got lucky and a peppermint shrimp I bought ate it. Other than that Joes Juice or that kalk past does pretty good.

I'll try and get a picture tomorrow... awfully small though... it has that dark brown look with a few tiny tentacles.... not sure how it got in that spot if it is aiptasia.

Zap him... they float around and will attach to anything. I picked up some cheato from the LFS that had them all through it. It took me a good hour of so to pick them all out.

Acroporas it is!

I just have to wait for ammonia to vanish then trites and trates
I would start with some monti caps, or some easier SPS like birdsnests until you get the hang of it, and have success with some SPS.

There are so many nice ones out there, but they can run up a tab quite quickly. I've still held off on some of the more expensive ones, because I'm still nervous about them surviving.

I was originally planning on a mix of corals in my tank, but it looks like I'm in for an SPS & Clam dominated reef.

does it retract into the sand also---could be a tube anenome---those are okay and pretty too --but you need to keep at least a foot from them and other corals or they will zap them.

technically you should start with some hardy lps and softies and give your tank a chance to mature---along with it conistently stable water conditions(I believe this is called pristine water conditions;)

boo on LPS... lol j/k ;)

I have a chalice coral frag that was given to me by a local reefer... man that sucker is wicked.

it has like 3" long tentacles at night reaching out trying to whack stuff :eek2:

I'm scared to see how long they get once it matures.

I think my SPS do better than my LPS considering the type of water quality I am keeping.

Ok fellas.... well I wasn't sure what it was... I tried to net it but it just squished up and it's gone now... was REALLY small.... anyways I have DIATOMS :D haha... so I am assuming this means I am near the end of the nitrogen cycle?

I test for ammonia a few days ago, and had a small amount. Could my cycle be done so fast? Pics if needed.
