75g reef tank build

I moved my sump around so my pump is right under the return bulkhead. I just used soft hose. I'm going to plump my overflow tonight. I'll show you what that looks like.

Came home and my waste water line jumped out of my sink on the floor. Good think there is a drain. What a mess. Lesson learned.

I had something like this happen except much worse. I forgot to put my waste line in my sink ran water for an hr and heard trickling water and walked into a flooded bathroom.

Jeez that would be a massive cleanup. I was lucky there is an emergency drain in the floor. My unit doesn't seem very efficient. The 7 hours I made water I got like 15 gallons. Should I have the waste restrictor all the way open?

I would think the waste restrictor should be all the way open.. (Mine doesn't even have one) Do the instructions say?

I guess I didn't have it adjusted right. It has to be closed to get to the 3-1 ratio. I may have wasted lots of water yesterday... Live and learn I guess. I have to fix some drips from the system today. The canisters are a pain to get on just right. I may need to grab some sort of lubricant or I may tape them.

Got some exciting updates.
The whole system is plumbed and ready for water.
Rodi system is water right now and is very efficient. About 2-1 or 3-1.
The tank has about 30 gallons in it! Should have the tank full tomorrow heated and salted!

Did my aquascaping and then added some sand. The system is leak tight!

With sand

Yes very cloudy. I have a hob with filter floss to help with the particles in the water.
So far so good

so far so good. I have a 75 gal as well that is going thru the cycling process so I will keep up with our thread. What are your stocking plans?

nice build! just an fyi, you should be mixing your salt/ro water in a separate container with a power head for circulation to make sure all of the salt is dissolved before adding the water to your tank. water/salt should mix for 24+ hours before you use it.

looking forward to more updates! what do you have planned for livestock, etc.?

The tank was filled with rodi water just above the overflow. I heated the water to 78 then let salt mix for 5 hours. It was plenty clear before I added my rock and sand. The tank will be running for a bit before any livestock anyways. I have an old yellow tang that will be going in there and a clown. I will get my clown a partner. I was thinking a foam angel for sure. That's as far as I got so far.

Update day 4

Sand in the tank. System is up and running will be moving heater to the sump area and placing power heads properly tomorrow. Still working on salinity. Need to increase it a small bit. Will be adding in instant oceans bottle of bacteria tonight before bed. Anyone know how to limit the waterfall noise in the overflow chamber. Seems like that is the only noise. That and the hole in the return 90. I used a sponge to block that so its not spraying everywhere.

noise is probably from air in the overflow. lots of times a new tank is noisy because the PVC is new. When bacteria and slime start to build up in the pipes it quiets down sometimes. my tank took a few weeks and my overflow setup is designed to be as quiet as possible, its a different type of overflow set up then you have because my tank wasnt "Reef Ready"

are you going to paint the back of the tank? they look much better with black background imo

Well the water level in the overflow is about 3/4 of an in away from the display water level and I think that's where my noise is from. Maybe it will change its really not that loud. I'm going to buy something black and mount it to the bank. Reef ready is so the way to go.

Yeah the only reason I didnt go Reef ready is because I wanted a Coast to Coast overflow to increase the amount of surface skimming. that and my 220g was 700$ cheaper without the overflows already in it haha

That's defiantly a great reason to not do it. It was about $70 difference so it was a no brainier in my mind. Is my sand supposed to be so cloudy if moved a bit? When I added it, the water was really cloud. When I moved it around a bit it's still cloudy. Should i siphon the sand maybe or leave it as is?
