8 line flasher wrasse

I received a female from DD yesterday and she was floating today. Wanted one since I saw a picture in Baensch Marine Atlas. Must not take shipping well even when done by the best in the business.

:headwally:

I am embarrassed to admit that I screwed up. I misidentified the dead fish. I ordered a McCoskers wrasse along with the eightline. Put them both in my 29 gallon QT which I keep lights out for a day or two. Both fish went into hiding. Next day one dead and bleached out. Today I turn qt light on and the eightline swims out looking perfectly healthy.

Both fish were close in size, along with the deteriorated condition of the dead fish, and all the reports of these eightlines not doing well caused me to jump to conclusions. I am glad that the eightline is alive and well though and do not want my previous post to deter anyone from ordering an eightline from DD.

I have sent DD an email explaining the situation and I apologize to them and everyone here for the mistake.

On a side note....my QT definitely has ich now. When looking at all my fish in QT just a while ago they all have little white specs on them, including the tiny damsels.

I'm slowly bringing salinity down, I was at 1.026 and after a day I'm at 1.017. I've been taking a small pitcher and pulling out 1-3 scoops and putting back fresh RO/DI. I let it go at least an hour or two before I do it again, probably much longer than that.

Just fyi.....
Salinity can come down in 8-10 hrs. from normal salinity to 1.009 without hurting the fish.....so if they are suffering from the ich you can speed it up. The only thing to be aware of is the ph. I would usually just buffer the fresh water before hand to accomodate that.

If the way you are doing it is working than just keep on keepin on. Remember your timing of the treatment doesn't start till you hit 1.009.

The important key is hoping you diagnosed it correctly...........if it's velvet you will have to bring the salinity back up before you can medicate with copper. Copper is sometimes preferred because it treats both diseases.

Bringing the salinity back up is when you have to go slow & if velvet is chasing you time wise, it's a very tough situation.

I don't know what the rule for quinine sulfate as far a salinity levels..........maybe someone can chime in on that?

Almost positive its not velvet. I've had velvet before and it killed my fish very quickly. This has been hanging around for a little bit and the fish are all swimming around like normal and eating very well.

The way I'm doing it working for me now since the tank is downstairs and I run down every once in a while to swap out some water.

I do have culpramine handy if it comes to that but I was afraid of treating these wrasses with it. All in all, the QT currently has 2 x Eightline, 2 x female Lamarks, 2 x tiny Cross Damsels. QT is a 40B with a 10G sump, MP10, SRO-1000 skimmer

They will stay in QT and probably never hit the DT. One already chases the other around the QT a little so if they are aggressive in QT they are def not going to the DT.

Probably end up giving them away or something.

After 1 hr of acclimation I had to put them into the tank earlier than I would like because one from each bucket looked more stressed than before. Have to run out and hoping the the best.

During acclimation

Very nice. Do they have those on sale or something cause somebody mentioned it somewhere else but I didn't see them for less than 189 on LA.

It was on sale for $80 which started last friday and ended today. LA must had plenty they were still available on wednesday. The sale was from the subscriber's email so you will need to subscribe to their newsletter to get the special price. Few weeks ago it was the scribbled angel on sale for about $120.

Given what happened to the smaller ones I was afraid to ask for small again and I ended up with 1 med and one in bet sm-med. Didn't get a very good look but will try to put up some pics if they decide to come out after I get home.

Hi, a local shop as a pair of 8 lined wrasse. In not completely sure if they are so was hoping to post a pic here.

....how do I post a pic?

Bad news, I found one of the Labout's wrasse dead and the other one is laboring at the bottom but hoping it will pull through. The sale is over.

I don't about others but it seems this past year I am encountering more DOA and DAA more than prior years.
