8" too deep for 9410?

Need some input from you fellow 9410 owners. My 9410 has been running for 2 and half weeks and I still cant open the air line all the way. It is skimming just not at full capacity. I saw the pictures that reeftivo posted and his water level is lower around 7in. I also noticed Shawn's at salty crittery has this skimmer sitting so the pump is mostly out of the water. The top of my skimmer pump is just at water level. Thanks for any help or insight anyone can provide.

Absolutely to deep. 7 inches worked out perfect for me. Before it was skimming to wet and surging a lot when in 8 inches of water.

From when Shawn got his to today the pump has gotten stronger so it is no longer possible to have the clamp full open unless you get a larger cup, the skimmer can actually handle the 9020.140 foam extractor quite well.
