i plan to buy a bta in about 4 months or little longer after i swap out the lid and buy a light for my tank.the bigger clown showing a bit of interest in my duncan and shroom frag

The ones i seen looked around a good 2 inches diameter maybe 3 . Im not familiar enough with nems to know if they were fully expanded or not
IMO, $80 for a Rainbow BTA is excessive, unless that includes shipping. Both Chicago Sunburst and Black Widow BTAs can command premium prices (well over $100), but a typical Rainbow BTA? Not so much.
As Griss mentioned, BTAs can take over a tank. Here's my 65 gallon "mixed reef" from the early 2000s:
And, just to prove I refuse to learn my lesson, here's my "mixed reef" 88 gallon tank currently:
Look for a local reefer group or on FaceBook for people in your area selling BTAs. In January/February of this year, I gave away over 50 clones from my current tank. You may not find them for free in your area, but $20-$40 per clone is the going rate for "standard" Rainbow BTAs from fellow hobbyists in SoCal.

Another question is a smatfarm g3 or g5 strong enough to allow a bta to thrive?
Which model? It looks like they range in wattage depending on the model. Anywhere from 60 watts to 140 watts.
That said, BTAs are pretty adaptable and hardy anemones.

60watts for the g3 and 95watts on the g5 i think it was
Oh, okay. I'm not really familiar with SmatFarm. Since LEDs can be dialed up or down, I'd go with the higher wattage and you can dial it down in you need to. This gives you flexibility in the future.

I have a G5. It can grow BTAs no problem. I think I have it maxing out at 70% during the day on my wife’s 32 bow front.
