9 gal nano 'package'?

Hi Richard,

Ten or so years ago, I purchased a 110g package for a reef tank I set up in Louisville, KY. I couldn't have been happier with the results, but a short-notice job transfer forced me to leave all that behind a few years ago. Now I'm finally thinking about starting another reef tank... this time on a much smaller, 9g nano scale. I have a couple of questions.

First, how well does the package scale down to nano/pico sizes? Rock size/shape requirements for aquascaping differ. How about the livestock? i'm thinking that a 9g might be at the low end of the 'normal package diversity.

Finally, shipping seems to be thorny problem. If we're talking two separate shipments, combined with a 100lb minimum per shipment charge at $1 per pound, shipping ends up close to 2x the cost of the rock, sand, and critters. I'm hoping I'm missing something.

SMF...my old stomping grounds....when I lived there gasoline was .25 a gallon...used to fill up my '59 TR3 for $2.50..and Folsom lake was full.....tells you how old I am...LOL

Shipping is tough for small amounts as all the airlines have a 100# minimum charge....just no way around it...and fed ex is worse, they are up to about $6.50 a pound now for their overnight service.

Option is to find somebody in SMF that wants to split an order with you...then would be less painful for the shipping...

good news is it is a direct flight to SMF..I pack it in the morning, you pick it up in the afternoon...

You can order whatever size Package you want, just enter the size in gallons on the order form and it will calculate the cost for you!

Ah, another TR3 fan. In my Ohio HS school days, when most of the kids were driving GTO's, SS396's, Mustangs, etc., my friend and I spent hundreds of after school hours in a 57 TR3. Not the ideal car for a northern Ohio winter, but anything offering that much fun is usually illegal. And, yes, I have distinct memories of topping it off with 25 cents per gal gas at the local station.

I'll definitely see if I can save some cash by doubling up with another local order. Either way, I'll probably place an order... the rock is just too good.

Thinking some more about the airline 100lb minimum, and a small order like this one. I'm wondering if sending it all in a single shipment might be possible here. Given the small tank size, I could easily do 50% daily water changes while the tank was going through the initial cycling. Thoughts?
