Ok so the girls talked me into doing a tank for them. I was originally going to use my 55 gal sump as I wanted to replace it with something more functional anyways. After determining that over 10 years of crud and calcium build up, it was not worth the effort to try and clean it up enough to make a reef tank out of it.
So off to Scott's I go. To make a long story short he had a 55 and stand I bought, took the stand home and left the tank to be drilled the following weekend. So we're about ready to drill the first hole when Scott mentioned I wish you would have bought something I can fit into to drill these holes. I say like what, he says like that 90 over there. Hummm bigger is better, right. Done deal. So the 55 and stand are returned and the 90 is bought and drilled.
Next weekend back at Scott's discussing stand, canopy, and sump ideas. He said that 75 gal sitting on that stand just dropped in price from the owners. Hummm, nice oak stand, needs a little work nice Oceanic tank, ding ding ding, hey I can make my sump out of that (Sorry Eric). So the tank and stand make the trip home for less than what the material would have cost to build just a sump for me.
The fun begins. Kathy wants the stand and canopy black, so the sanding begins. We need to break through the clear finish so the black stain will soak in.
As you can see from the pic's the stain didn't work out as planned. It would just not turn the wood black, it got dark brown at the most.
Hummmm, that's not looking to good.
Yeah, don't like that at all.
