90 Gallon Re-stocking Ideas

My 90 gallon (with 55 gal sump) has been up and running for about 6 years. My initial fish stock was the following:

Flame Angel
Yellow Tang
Blue Hippo Tang
Royal Gramma
2 Ocellaris Clowns
Mandarin
Yellow Watchman Goby

They were all together for about 4 years and over the last two they all died off except for the Gramma (the mandarin actually jumped out, never would have thought).

I am starting to try and figure out what I want to re-stock with. I have several LPS corals and may start back into zoas (think the flame angel was responsible for decimating all the zoas I had originally)

I don't mind having a couple repeats, but want to have some different ones when possible. Some initial thoughts:

Yellow Tang
Tomini Tang
Fire Fish
Peaceful Damsel or Chromis (several)
Clown(s) - type doesn't matter
Cardinalfish

Then maybe a bottom dweller such as the watchman goby or a blenny.

Thoughts?

No Yellow Tang. You may be ok with a Kole or Tomini Tang and only 1 tang in that size tank. You may want to be careful with your tank and check for illness. 4 years is very short-term with that livestock. Just saying.

I don't understand why people are so pressed to have multiple tangs in a tank that may only hold one. Do people not realize the swimming space needed?

I forgot to mention...tang police need not respond.

I was asking more for everyone getting along.

I had two tangs previously for over 4 years, probably closer to 5 and they did fine. I have news for the tang police, there are very few hobbyists out there with a tank large enough to satisfy you guys when it comes to tangs.

So all your fish died after 4 years and you're gonna do the same damn thing again ? Enjoy

They died off over a period of 2 years starting in year 4. Doing a quick Google search it appears to me that is within the "average" life span for a captive tang, regardless of tank size (unless you are talking zoo tank size).

Let me ask you this...how do you know when a fish dies of "old age" or some other reason unless it is an obvious sickness such as ich?

look dude youre gonna do what youre gonna do. you want cramped and stressed out fish thats your choice. i feel bad for the fish

I will also agree with the notion that two tangs in a 90 is a terrible decision. Bad for those two tangs, and for every other fish in the tank who has to live with those two fish.

tomini and yellow in a 90 is going to be tight. NOT impossible, but tight. I would just be careful to give plenty of swimming room. potters or a coral beauty would be nice. they both have a pretty good reputation. I think its specific fish dependent.

Ok, updated list:

Tomini tang
Jawfish
Clown
Cardinal (s)
Damsel (s)/Chromis (s)
Watchman goby (will he and jawfish get along?)

And i already have the royal gramma

Then maybe get a shrimp or crab of some sort

I am just very afraid of angels after the flame angel disaster

What happened with your flame angel? Mines been arguably my best addition.

Well, not long after i got him zoas started disappearing...so much so that i lost numerous colonies. *I cant say 100% for certain it was him as i never actually saw it, but the timing was right and my LPS continued to flourish

Hmm. I only have 1 mushroom and 1 toadstool that he hasn't bothered at all. I feed frozen meaty food regularly though so maybe that helps

With your new list, the only thing I see might be a problem is the Damsels/Chromis. Either on your tank might be on the small size to add a group of them. They may start killing each other off and leaving you only with 1. For as the jawfish and the goby, it is possible that they will not get along, due to similar body shape and color and they also occupy the bottom 3rd of the tank.
