9004 dc

BRS and Marine Depot have preorders in for them and will be the first to get them.

I want to put this in a 15g shallow water biotope. You said I should use the 9001 in snorkel mode but I fear with two 6040s a 9001 in snorkel mode will get me unwanted bubbles. The surface skimming looks better on the 9004. It also seems less likely to release bubbles as the 6040s pound the SPS with waves. Am I right? I don't really mind the extra space it will occupy. It's still less space than having a rear chamber or overflow in there.

BRS and Marine Depot don't have any ordering options up on the sites yet. Neither said they have any idea when either. No problem, I probably don't need the additional power of the DC version anyways. I just thought the added adjustability would be cool. Perhaps the standard would be fine. I respect your advice Roger. What would you do if it were your tank? It's a 15g rimless with 2 6040s, a heater, and a Osmolator. Light is provided by a Nanobox Duo. There's 10 or so pounds of TBS Walt Smith 2.0 rock and an < inch of Tropic Eden sand. I could just do large weekly water changes and leave it as is. It just seems too simple.

I just asked the factory for an update and was told 3 more weeks and we should have them. I think for a skimmer I prefer AC as it is cheaper and the pump lasts longer. Not sure I want to deal with power supplies and controllers when it is not doing anything for flow. I agree on the 9004 surface skimmer, but the newest 9001 has a bubble trap sponge included, while not perfect, it will help, also the surface skimmer can be improved by adding the floating surface skimmer from an Eheim Surface Extractor.

I just ordered a 9001. I think I will be happier with its smaller footprint. I'm only using one 6040 now. Two was overkill, especially since I have decided to focus more on LPS so I don't think it will be too much flow for the skimmer. I am most interested in the surface skimming abilities of the 9001. The Eheim part you speak of is the float from the Skim 350? I think I have one of those lying around somewhere. Is there any modification required or does it just slide right into the intake tube of the snorkel? I will use it this way until the release of the rumored 3161???

Cool that's what I've got and I found the hobbiest video on a German forum. I will post a few pics when I get it hooked up. Thanks!

I have the 9001 installed and it's working well. It started skimming straight out of the box. The included snorkel works well if the skimmer is raised about .5" above the water level mark. Mounted lower it did struggle to skim the surface. I ended up switching back to "contact" skimming because the tank will feature mostly LPS and it also looks sleeker and less obtrusive, and also zero bubbles. I will save my surface skimming for the rumored filter which I am hoping will be revealed at Interzoo. I have one quick question. What is the bit of Velcro that is included for?

Really cool stuff! The 3161 looks sweet and is really affordable too. I'm looking forward to deploying one when they hit the states.
