9010 exit pipe sponge keeps falling?

Can anyone offer me some assistance? On my 9010 after I clean the exit pipe outer sponge it stays put for about a day. Once it becomes water logged it falls down the pipe.

Do I just need a new one? Is there a trick to keep this thing in place. I think if I put a plastic wire tie at the bottom of the pipe so it can't slide down will fix it? I just want to make sure might I need a new sponge to boot?

The sponges only job is to trap bubbles, it is really not that important. You could zip tie it, the replacement part is 0800.140.
