9010 Problems

I noticed about a week ago that the skimmate I was pulling had little if no oder, smelled much like saltwater.
Then this weekend there was very little foaming action. I took apart the unit and cleaned it. Put it back in and it began to foam somewhat and went back an hour later and it was not foaming again. This is becoming quite frustrating as this unit is only about 9 months old.

Skimmers don't always have something to skim out, also certain additives can cause skimming to stop as well. Can you tell me more about the skimmers history, did it work up until recently? Can you tell me more about the tank? If the skimmer was pulling out water my guess would be there is nothing to skim or that an additive was used which is interfering with skimming.

It was pulling a half of a cup of oil like residue with a strong odor. About a week ago I noticed it was mostly a yellowish water with no odor. The tank is a 72 with a 25 gallon sump. The 9010 is in the sump. As I stated it is only about 9months old and has been working great before last week.

Another thing I noticed is that when removing the cup for cleaning there is not any noise as before when i removed the cup it was oveflowing with foam and making a gurgling noise.

So did you totally disassemble the pump and venturi to clean it? It sounds like it just might not have the same airflow and waterflow as before. Again, this could also be the result of an additive, the noise you had was from water being taken through the air intake system. This normally happens when the cup is removed. A change in surface tension could stop this. I would thoroughly clean the pump and nozzle, make sure everything is properly assembled and give it a couple weeks.

I am not adding any new additives. I am adding the same ones that were being added before this issue arose. I will give it a good cleaning when I get home this evening...
