9010 sump compartment

I am building a sump with a 20 gallon tank. Does anyone know the minimium size compartemnt that would fit the 9010 skimmer. Would it be the footprint 5x5 or does the return add depth? Thanks

The 5x5 footprint does not include the output pipe(aka cabinet kit) if you choose to use it. With it the footprint is about 5x7.5
