93 Cube build

Now i have a quick question. When drilling the tank how close togeather can u drill the holes?

This is only from what I've read in the DIY forum (albeit from the experts there)... half the diameter of the hole. So if you are drilling 2 inch holes, they have to be at least 1 inch apart.

I was thinking about this at lunch today and something didn't seem right. I searched the DIY forum and I was wrong... it's 1.5x the size of the hole. So 2" holes have to be 3" apart (min).

PMing you to make sure you see this before you drill tonight.

Sorry for the bad info.

Got my sump built this weekend. It is a 20 long with 3 sections. Return, fuge and skimmer. Not sure what skimmer im going to use yet. If anyone hase sugestions please let me know. Also was able to get my tank drilled with 2 returns and an overflow.Im hoping to get it water tested in the next xouple days.

wow looks great! what did you use to side the stand with? And what color stain is that? I really like it.

Next im not sure if im going to do a alge turf scrubber or a octo 110 or 150 skimmer? Tell me what you think.

First, you do really nice work. Everything looks great.I noted you re doing a skimmer.
FYI An algae scribber and a skimmer do different things; so, it's not an either/ or type question in terms of function. Algae scrubbers remove inorganic nitrogen and inorganic phosphorous and produce organics.Skimmers remove some organics and aeration as does granulated activated carbon. All 3 can be used in complimentary fashion.

The inside of the stand is melamine. They used to build showers out of this. The stain that I used was early American and then cleared 3 times. Thanks for the compliments.

Tom,

Thanks for the compliment. On my last tank (28 cube) all I ran what an alge turf scrubber and carbon. Didn't think there was a need to run a skimmer. I am very good at keeping up with my water change. The one thing I did notice from using the scrubber was that my colors seamed richer. This got me to thinking that skimming was taking to much out of the water? On my new tank il was going to go back to a skimmer and carbon dose with vadka and vinigar. I had done this in the past on my 180 with great success. All my sps seamed to love this method. Any thoughts that you might have will be given great thought in my build. You really know your stuff.

Thanks,
Keith

TUNZE SKIMMER! I see a 9005 for sale in the Used forum....That would work good for that tank and takes up no space in the sump...:spin1:

well im still getting this going a little at a time. The tile on the top of the stand is done and the tank has been filled and water tested. All id good and am now filling with rodi water.

Coming along great! How the heck do you reach the bottom of that? Looks like a tight squeeze between the light and rim of tank.

The whole front of the hood lifts up. I can stand completely up and service the whole tank. I'll have more pics coming soon. Skimmer and controller will be here mid week. Also made my light rails for the display and fuge. Stay tuned.
