96w quad PC on 10g? Who's got it?

I have the coralife 12" version.

It works decently well, however i'm really wanting more power these days. My corals are growing, but you know... who doesn't want more power?

My problem is I have a more or less 10 high, so a 20" fixture just isn't going to be happening...

some older pics can be found in my red house.

I would love to upgrade my lighting, it seems a MH retro is all that will really fit. If anyone knows of smaller T5's feel free to let me know.

I have the Coralife 2x65W 50/50 PC fixture over my 10G AGA tank, it's doing well. If anything it might actually be too strong, it kills coralline algae that are directly exposed! The corals love it though, at the moment I have a few green zoanthids, a green kenya tree, a lot of pulsing xenia and a green slimer SPS which is doing well after a week or so in the tank (high).

well i know i can grow any softy i want...thats not the issue. I just need to be able to grow sps and eventually maybe a small clam.

Whats the smallest tank that a 24" t5 fixture would fit?

I have a 96 watt quad ballast and reflector in the for sale section for $35 shipped. Reefgeek has bulbs for this fixture on clearance. I Have had good luck with this light.

The 96w quad pc bulb should be fine where sps are concerned. I would put the sps as high as possible, and make sure you still maintain good flow for any sps corals you may have.

If you are willing to spend the money I would look into an HQI type system. There are many companies that make clip on lights such as

or fixtures such as

HQI’s would help to bring more color to your SPS coral and give you more diversity in the types of corals and clams you are able to purchase.

As for clams I would go with a Derasa, or something similar, that is if you are going to go with the 96w quad. Just make sure you do your research on them. Also try to stay away from clams such as a maxima, not saying that it would not survive under the 96w pc, but it would do a lot better under an HQI.

Either way good luck on your decision.

Move up to 15 gallon tank. It is 24" wide and opens up a lot more choices for lighting. A 15 gallon is only about $25.

ok thanks. Thats exactly what i was lookin for. I think i'll just do that, because if it really is 24" long then i can put t5s on it. I'll start w/just 2 t5's and then at a later time probably add 2 more.
