A ~19,000 Gallon Aquarium

Was a pleasure to finally meet you Nahham. Sure hope next time it'll be in front of the tank with the famous avocado shakes...
As discussed in th meeting I would guess that even if the rocks had silica, metal... or if they had no carbonate... In a tank this big and with the huge amount of water exchanged daily do you guys think it'll cause issues in the tank?
In the case they had some bad things in them would it cause prolems long term or just over a few weeks or months while they cure? In this case having them in the water since now should make them Ok for using them after 3-4 months?

Hey maroun, it was a pleasure meeting you, even if it was for a short time. I hope it will be too. I will gladly provide the avocado shake, tea, coffee, lunch, dinner, and bed and breakfast :lmao:.

I think we can skip the discussion about how bad the rock will be if it doesn't fizz because it does . We spent 2 hours cleaning the glass today and the tank looks impressive. I'll wait for the sand I moved (I dove to clean from the inside) to settle and snap a couple of photos for you.

I took some photos today. Not really representative because of the time of day; reflection on the glass is a killer.

My brain coral was doing fine for months until I added some contaminated water.

Hi Nahham, I have been going through the beginning of this thread since the last 4-5 hours read almost all posts, I appreciate your dedication and hard work towards this great project and wish you best of luck and success inshAllah , and yes there were talks of Avacado drinks, so whenever you have the kick off party let us know I will be there as I am not very far from Ajman, I am in RIyadh -KSA. Waiting to see more pictures and updates of your tank.

Cheers,
Adnan

Nahham, the water appears very green. Is there an algae bloom going on?, Plus there appears to be some kind of hair algae too. What did the water tests you had done say the phosphate levels were?

You need some parrotfish to eat all that algae. Parrotfish have a well developed swim bladder so they can be brought to the surface quickly. You can even catch them on a fishing line without fear of them bloating as you bring them up.

Otherwise you need to get a large siphon hose and do it the old fashioned way.

Thanks Adnan for stopping by and for the encouraging words. I will surely let you know when we get together for the grand opening. You can also join us @ masuae for local information and updates.

The phosphate levels in the saltwater well is 0.16 (The water was sitting there for a while so I am thinking it is lower now. The sea water phosphate level is 0.08. In all fairness it does not look that green. I just played around with the levels a bit. If you notice the overview pictures, the water is not really that green. Also, the hair algae isn't that bad in the aquarium; it just increased after the contaminated water was added. It is not really growing now. I'm waiting to see what happens after I add the props and live rock and then decide if I need to take extra measures.

I'm planning to add rabbitfish to the aquarium soon. They are a local variety that is known to eat algae. I'll probably go catch me some by the end of the month. Parrot fish isn't hard to come be here either. I'm also cleaning the tank bit by bit; it is 19,000 gallons after all. :)

Also, this wouldn't be a bad addition:

Common here and known to eat algae..

Common here and known to eat algae.... and also looks amazing.school of these will look incredible in your tank.

My main reason for adding them would be that they eat algae, the looking incredible part is just a plus :lmao:

Clown tang, it is a grass cutting machine add it :)

From the Surgeonfish (Acanthuridae) family, the local variety are:

Blue-Lined. Couldn't find a picture because it seems it is wrongly identified in the book in front of me. The book says Blue-lined surgeonfish (Acanthurus mata) but searching online shows an entirely different fish from the photo. The photo shows what seems to be a Acanthurus nigroris. But then I'm new to this.

Yellow-tail tang

Sohals are mean fish. While you could probably get away with a few of them in a system that size I would add those a little later for aggression issues.
