A Beginner's Nuvo Fusion 20 build

Hey everybody. As the title suggests I'm a beginner to the reefing world. I have kept many freshwater tanks over the past few years and currently still have a 55 gallon freshwater. I have also had a saltwater tank before but unfortunately got ich back to back on two separate tanks and that discouraged me enough to just quit and say saltwater just wasn't meant to be for me. Both of my previous saltwater tanks only lasted about 3 months each before giving up. Well after starting to read and see pictures of every bodies aquariums in the reef central community again, it's got me wanting to try again. I hope by creating this thread I can get some great advice and share my journey, and in return to help motivate me to keep at it, even if things seem to go bad.

Now that I have shared my story, let's get to the fun part. This list is what I am going to start off my aquarium with.

IM Nuvo Fusion 20
Kessel A360we
Ecotech MP10wqd
Tunze Nano ATO
Apex Neptune Controller
Cobalt Aquatics 100w heater
BRS Reef Saver Dry Rock
BRS RO/DI Unit
Apex PMK module
Milwaukee Digital Refractometer
Hanna Calcium and Alkalinity Checker
API Saltwater test kit.

I will hopefully be setting everything up later today to begin cycling. I will post pictures when I am finished. I'm excited to get this going and hope you guys can give me some great advice. [emoji3]

Sounds like this should be a good build.
Sticking with the stock return pump? Any plans for skimmers, reactors and filters for the IM?

Actually I forgot to mention I've also got a sicce micraplus to trade out for the noisy stock return pump. This tank will be in my bed so I want it to be fairly quiet. I've also got the ghost skimmer on its way today.

Well I didn't get as far as I would have liked to tonight but I did get just about everything set up. Tomorrow I will play around with the aquascape and get some water and sand in there!

I forgot to mention that I also added the spinstream nozzles on the return lines

If you want to avoid getting ich again you need to quarantine everything before it goes in your tank or better yet TTM and quarantine.

I hadn't said it yet but that was definitely part of the plan this time around. I appreciate the advice.

Well here she is. Finally up and running. It's still pretty cloudy since it's only been 30 minutes since I filled it with water. The Innovative Marine Ghost Skimmer is running as well and while it does make a little more noise than I would like, I think I will get used to it over time. Let the cycling begin!!![emoji2]

I just set up my own Nuvo Fusion 20 not too long ago! I'm loving the tank so far.

Best of luck!
Thanks!
I'm really liking the way mine is turning out as well. It will be interesting to see how our similar tanks end up looking and progressing in a year.

Good luck and happy reefing!

Here is a better picture now that the water has cleared up. I'm not sure about the aquascape. I don't think it looks too bad though so I might just leave it as is.

I'm thinking about selling my kessil. It seems like more people have no luck with the kessil rather than good. I didnt see much growth or polyp extension with them on my last tank but then again, that tank was only running for a few months. I'm thinking about the AI hydra 26. I've seen a lot of people on here have great looking corals and growth under these. Does anybody have any advice on this? And what fish/shrimp would go well in here?

I have a hydra hd over my 20IM and love it. This tank has only been 'setup' for a couple months, but all the corals were in my previous build, that had hydra hd's over it. I love the look and growth with the AI's.
