A Couple Zoa Pics

I'm still having trouble getting the focus just right... whether I'm using auto or manual. These were taken with my Canon 60D and 18-135mm lens.

Pretty zoas. Nice torch.

If you're having trouble with focus be sure to check your minimum focal distance. You may simply be too close. Try stepping back 6 inches to a foot and see if that helps.

Be careful shooting at an angle into your tank. The more off perpendicular you are, the more distortion is introduced. 2nd shot has a downward angle point of view.

It looks to me like your torch is stinging the upper left of your zoanthids. You might consider putting another inch or two between them.

Thanks for the feedback :)

The torch is new, so I just stuck it there in the sand while it's acclimating. I have some corals coming this week, so I'll be finding the torch and zoas a permanent place.

Those are good tips above. I have almost the same set-up (7D and I have used my 18-135 at times, but now use my Sigma 30 and Tamron 90 over that lens). You should get some sharp shots. Make sure your pumps are off... what settings? did you use Tripod, yes or no? If you are shooting hand held and your shutter speed isn't up high enough, you aren't going to get that really sharp shot. Try getting your camera stationary (even if you can put it on a chair or some other object), and use the 2-sec timer. Make sure the focus is bang on before taking the shot, which includes not being too close (which shouldn't be an issue with this lens). That should produce a sharp image.
