A few random shots of my young tank

figured I'd share some pics with the club of my105g euro braced w/35g truvue sump, currently 2 mp40 and 1 mp10 with another mp40 waiting to go on. ATI sunpower for now just got a 8 bulb powermodule .. Controlled by a reef angel with add ons..

Did you use new sand and just transfer over the live rock? Nice setup!

Right on =) I got all new sand. I wanted the larger grain so it's easier to clean I transfered some of my old rock due to biopsies and dried the rest. I cooked and cycled most of the rock that came with the tank in a Brute for about 4 months with choice rock from my other 2 systems. The setup I bought was relatively young but the dude was an idiot and it was covered in Hair algae and turf.

Literally all I kept out of the purchase was the tank, rock and the blonde naso that I have to get rid of =)..

Did you mix new water or transfer old water from the previous tank? What do you think was the % cooked rock to established rock in the tank. Also was the larger grain dry or in established bags? I got larger grain too but in bags stating it was live sand from BRS.

No old water at all except the transferring of corals in containers. Maybe a few gallons tops.

The sand was dry special grade reef I washed the crap out of it.
Maybe 3 cups of my old sand initially when I first fired up the tank. .

And the old 45g rock was very little in contrast to what was new. Maybe 5% - 10%tops. I wasn't going to fight the biopsies so I didn't risk it. When cooking the rock I would swap small amounts weekly into my frag tank sump and I put a few pieces from my DT into the Brute with it. I did water changes until the nutrients were stripped from it. Also used microbacter7 although not sure it did much. I did on final tear down of my old 45 add about 10lbs of base into the sump of the new tank.

I didn't have any issues at all I feel the bio was well established after the long cook time and I think by constantly ghost feeding and swapping the rocks into the frag tank helped it out a lot. Took a long time though as I was Gathering equipment and building my stand.

Overall the tank is rockin I am dealing with some cyan on the sand bed right now and I had a bout of slight bleaching due to my nitrates got too low but it's going great after I backed off my amount of vinegar. I've lately noticed some really fast growth on the sps and my colors are returning by the week.

Wow,what a beautiful tank! The sump set up is awesome, so organized and efficient looking. Blows mine out of the water (haha, reef puns).

=).. Thanks guys I made it a point to myself to make this one more organized underneath. I wish I could blow out the wall and go big on the tank and equipment but I can't. I have literally no more room under the stand it's at capacity lol.

I'm having an issue now cause I know my wife got me a few things for the reef angel including another relay. Making room and rerouting the wires is gonna suck but I need the extra plugs =).

I'm really contemplating on making my own custom glass sump to fit the base exactly where I want it and incorporate an Ato and a reactor chamber all in one unit . I also won a nice tunze skimmer but can't fit it in my current sump if I tried. also have calcium reactor planned but will need to put it behind the tank if I give up the dosers. That old saying of wish I went bigger is already here and the tank is only been up for 3 months lol.

Again thanks for the compliments guys I appreciate it

thanks Yeah my sand bed is my in tank frag rack lol. It will one day be uncluttered.... or full of acans and zoas and be really cluttered =).

On the frag note I'm building a system in my garage it's a 70gal flat. I plan to have it up this weekend if I can. I'll post some pics of that also. I converted a room off of my garage with water and drain and insulated the walls. After it's stable I will have a nice grow out area for some wild colonies to frag eventually and propagate my stuff. Not gonna rely on it but it will be better than what I have now and should be pretty easy to manage. Also give me a place to have my mixing station and frag tank out of my garage and all in one place. If it makes a profit hooray.. if not oh well at least it will be fun to tinker with lol.
