A few random shots of my young tank

The sky blue acro I grabbed looks fantastic, Daniel! Great polyp extension, amazing color, nothing exploding or lighting on fire yet. I hope it will be the first of many successful SPS.

Thanks!

Forrest

@reeferitis2 I'm not sure what that chalice is I got a booger a while ago that grew into a nice smaller colony. Thanks for the props on the tank it's a work in progress.

@forrest that's awesome that you like it. That will be a good test for you for an acro as it can take some punishment if needed. It should do well for you as I can tell by your posts recently your stepping up your game in the husbandry and knowledge dept. When are we gonna see some pics of your tank? =).

I want to use this thread as a growth chart for myself so I'm probably gonna bomb it with photos sporadically..

The maroons are OK if you like to bleed . They are good with fish. They just hate people lol. I'm scared to put my hand next to them.

I've been toying with the idea of putting them in the 105g cause they are so unique (both are wild caught and have crazy patterns) but I can't do it to my ocelaris. I've had them for 13 years and although they are just standard clowns they have been with me so long I feel they deserve the bigger tank =).

It's a 6 bulb, 4 blue + and 2 coral +.

I just got a 8 bulb 4' powermodule and I have 6 blue + and 2 coral +. The par is way high though on my test runs so I think I'm going to throw 2 Actinic bulbs in the sunrise/set spot to drop the par. I did a test run with the new light and I was at 1200 par right above the surface and 750+ par 3" under the surface and 350+ on the sand lol. Right now with my current bulbs I get about 200 par on the sand dead center and about 350 center of tank and my coral is happy.

I like the color combo with just the b+ & c+ I think adding the Actinic will give me some more pop on the coral so if it's too blue I may swap out a b+ for a purple+. I bought a few extra bulbs to play with. But b+ is the main one for coral growing all around.

Got the powermodule hung. This thing is suuuuper bright. I'm only running 6 of the 8 bulbs cause the par is almost double. I'm going to slowly drop it down and eventually turn on the extra 2 bulbs. I think I'm going to throw 2 Actinic bulbs in as I have enough par with just the 6 bulbs and get a little more pop =)..

Still need to do some cord management and add my reef angel expansion relay( 8 more controlled plugs) . I got the moonlight module and 3 led sets. I'm going to mimic the true lunar cycle on the great Barrier reef =). . I think I'm going to just use the adhesive pucks directly to the acrylic shield in the spots I want them in and get some quick disconnects for bulb changes. That's going on tonight.. Along with another mp40..

Thinking about going thru and adjusting the rock work to take advantage of the new coverage. I'm going to cherry pick my sps also and get rid of what doesn't interest me..

I'd like to know what doesn't interest you

=) I have doubles of some frags and I have 2 colonies of green slimer type acro that exploded in my tank. Thinking of getting rid of the 3" one along with a few other green sps. I'm going to lean towards millepora and get away from stags and green in general and go for some wild colonies to see if I can score a few gems..

I'll be getting rid of them over the next few months so if your interested let me know I'll give a good deal to WC members.

I am absolutely interested in any slimers... I actually posted a wtb post a few days ago looking for green and/or blue. I'm also most likely interested in any other sps's you might want to get rid of so let me know what, when, where and how much.

Wow, this is a beautiful reef tank! Keep doing whatever you are doing because the results look superb! :)

Welcome to the Wine Country Reefers sahin. Always a pleasure to hear your observations.

Ken

Thanks Ken. I recently realised that there are quite a few gems of tanks hidden away here and there in local forums...so I am hanging out everywhere now...not just the SPS forum. :D

Thanks I appreciate it =).

On another note I may be venturing into the realm of diy led powermodule like you recommended in the T5 thread.. I had a ballast go out and I'm leaning towards ripping out the middle 4 bulbs and putting in either the Lumia 5.2 pucks and makers heatsink or a rapid led Aurora chip that's really similar to a radion pro. So I'd have the 4 controllable pucks down the center of the unit controlled by my reef angel..

Decisions are hard to do when your used to a way of doing things and it's working for you =). I can probably get the full rapid kit for less than $700 and imo have the end all hybrid fixture. Well until next month when some new LED technology gets released making it obsolete lol.. But I'm seriously thinking of doing it..

I did a similar thing. While it's not an ATI fixture I cut out the middle 4 bulbs on my 8 bulb fixture. I put the 90g rapid kit in the middle of it. The tank is only wide enough to run 2 of the T5s. So far I'm really liking it and my corals are as well.

The only thing I need todo is add a few more LEDs.

Just curious why you guys go through all the mod but not getting the ATI T5/LED combo?

Btw, very nice tank there. what kind of sump/fuge and skimmer do you use?

Thanks Honestly I'm not trying to spend 2k on a light. And I really wasn't planning on using leds. I got the ATI powermodule used for a screaming deal and the leds If add them can be changed/upgraded fairly easily and that wouldn't be the case with the hybrid powermodule. And imo I could make a better performing one just looks wise is gonna be the challenge =).

I have a 30x18x16 truvue platinum sump I modified and a SSA cs2 skimmer. Sicce syncra 5 return pump, mr1 reactors powered by a mag 3. Ato is a tunze Ozmolator.

"30x18x16 truvue platinum sump I modified"

do you mind share some picture? actually I'm getting one of this myself and want to do some mod as well. thx

I'm debating on the ATI combo and I also want to mod my current Tek 8 bulbs with LEDs too but I am not a handy man though. :(
