a few ?'s about Chaetodon collare

really interested in getting one of these but i currently have an SPS dominated reef tank - i dont mind a little picking here and there but overall devastation i would prefer to avoid. does anyone have any experience with these fish? i currently have a 110 gallon tank, only tankmates are a male dispar anthia, kole tang, mandarin dragonet and a mccoskers wrasse.

My experience wasn't the greatest - my collare didn't last 30 days. It only ate live clams & brine. It was the last addition to my tank, so it was harrassed a little by my kole.

I loved everything about it except I found it to be fragile & difficult to feed. My lfs said it was eating everything, but it didn't.

It's just my experience - I believe every fish is different so maybe you'll luck out.

what type of coral did you have in your tank? did it bother anything? any experience with clams? i dont have one but have thought about getting one. personally i would actually prefer the fish over the clam though if it came down to it.

Mine is quite the coral muncher. Not the easiest BF to keep, either. Pass for better options in a reef.

I have only tried it once (many years back) and my collare did not pass the corals. Always picking at them (especially sps's).

ok. sounds like im probably going to pass on it then. such a beautiful fish though. any other good options? I know the Pyramid is a good reef safe option as well as the copperband, but im not overly impressed with the looks of the pyramid and copperbands seem to have such an abysmal track record that its kind of putting me off of them.

I thought copperbands were good for aptasia - I'd be concerened with adding another fish to your exisiting tankmates though. Good luck!

which one? arent there two differant types of yellow longnose or am i thinking of somthing else?

You are correct, there are two versions of the yln - the standard common version, and one with a much longer snout. The latter is not as commonly offered. Either would be a good choice. Some here have had problems with a yln putting its snout into the coral looking for food.

hey Peter & Steve- I have the option on a Pakistan/Collare.

You know my expertise level... fair to good :)

Should I pass on this one?
(I already have a Klein's and CBB.)

In your reef? Definitely pass... why not go for one of the roaops butterflies instead?
