A General Guide to Salt Mixes

Well, something killed your sps. I'm out of answers for now. Seems like your water chemistry is good enough.

This is a long thread and things get lost. Why don't you start a new thread in the chem forum, posting the details and all of your maintenance and we can work on it there. If it is all in one post, it may be easier for us to pinpoint a particular problem.

Just a thought. :)

Agreed... Sorry I didnt mean to hi-jack this thread, actually got lost in reading various forums and just started posting :)

I've got other threads started in Chemistry as well as SPS and the JBJ Nano trying to figure out what's up with my tank. I think Ive spent more in test kits these last couple months than I have on corals...

Thats ok. No harm. I just have a hard time following a problem through when there are various subjects going on at one time. It is called old age.

Gary, at Get Tanked, sent me a 25g bag of his salt, for free. I paid shipping.
For what it's worth, the recently mixed salt tested exactly what he advertised.
The 25g salt bag mixed 25g of RO to a 35ppm salinity, 8dkh, 450 calcium. I haven't tested for mag. The salt mixed to a clear state with in minutes. My mixing container was visibly clean after the water was pulled from it.

No doubt a great salt.....

Well, if this Gary sent me a free 25g bag, I would be happy to test the big three and add it to my list.

But he would have to pay for shipping :D

Might be better to get one from someone else buying it, than direct from any manufacturer that knows it is going for testing. :D

Nothing like getting someone that paid for something to donate it to someone else....But I see your point.

I have a case and a half left guess I can send one of mine..

Anyone got a link to the stats? I just want to see what instant ocean's cal and mag are. I've gone back quite a ways and still haven't hit the beggining of this thread

edit: nevermind...i was having a moment of confusion

I just need about 3 cups in a sandwich bag would be fine. :)

I have a 5 gallon mix bag I can send you... Just make sure you do not add the calcium to the new water...That will be the hard part. You can test everything put not sure how you can test the calcium part. I guess if you add it REAL REAL slow with RO water it might work. But anytime I add the calcium to the mixing water it clouds up and precipitates....
