A Great Way to ruin a perfect wall; My 400 Gallon Project

Agreed. This is what I explained to Ryan and his wife. I want circulation running no matter what. If a heater, light or something else that can kill me falls into the tank or breaks, I don't mind the circuit tripping.

Melev, there are 2 GFI outlets that I can spot right off the bat, and you can sub-feed other outlets with those GFI's, so a GFI breaker is not needed. Iam also sure that, based on the number of circuits, there are other GFI plugs that he has not taken pictures of.

Karl, good description on the GFI. It is a quick trip incase of problems.

If a GFI receptacle is the first device on a run with 12 gauge wire on a 20 amp breaker, you can sub feed 15 devices off of it.

An advantage of a GFI receptacle is that it cost around $8 and a GFI breaker is substantially more expensive than a GFI receptacle. Also, you could use the first part of the run for the pumps, and then insert the GFI receptacle after the pump outlets. This will allow the pumps to run with out tripping the breaker, and still give you protection for all the heaters and other devices you plug in after the GFI receptacle.

I am surprised they didn't use liquid tight and PVC boxes. The metal will rust pretty fast.

Awesome Tank...I love the finished look, and very inventive way of handling the canopy. My fiance and I have a 120g but we hope to upgrade to a large tank in a few years

Hey Ryan, I heard about your new sump. Looks like things are finally coming together for you. See you tomorrow at the frag swap!

So my new sump will replace my old new sump. This has been one of the big obstacles in finishing this project. I have had this AWESOME sump for the past 3 months. The problem is, the guy that ordered it for me didn't take into consideration the size of the stand and the room underneath.:eek1: Lets not get into that. Let me show you my old fantastic sump. It is made by trigger systems. Check out their site.

Now check out what was built for me

I put a CD on the side to try to give you an idea of the massive size of this thing.

Here is a top view with a tape measuring 4 feet.

23940sump_top.jpg

The support stands are perpendicular to the edges so there is less room underneath. I have 3 options now;

The new sump can be really long and skinny 17 wide by 48 long,

A little thicker 20X40 or , I can just slip it between the supports and add the bulkheads after it is placed into the stand and have it at 29 by 34.5. That may be the easiest to build and the most effective for compartmentalizing.

Here is my skimmer and the collection base. It looks really wicked. Easy to take apart and clean.

Finally, to give you an idea of the size

23940skimmer_and_me.jpg

I am 6 feet tall BTW.

So the room is just about complete. We need to have the door installed and the A/C unit installed. I will post a couple more pictures this weekend.

Once I get the sump, hopefully, it will get plummed and can finally get water into it. There is a frag swap here tomorrow and I can't get anything. I'm going to collect names and numbers for the future!

Boy it looks like you are realy coming along nicely! That 's some dandy equipment you have there. That's sad about that great sump. You know, I could sure use it. It will fit in my stand.

How long do you think it will be before you will be ready to put water in in?

Absolutely beautiful attention to detail. I've built many homes and must say that you utilized your space very nicely. Great job. Can't wait to see pix with it plumbed, filled, running and growing.
BTW, you really could have done a lot of people here a very nice favor by allowing your mermaid to model your skimmer.

I need to ask, what is a Physiatrist?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Physiatrist = pain management specialist.

Things are really looking awesome. BTW, I love that sump above. Too bad it wont work out for you. I love the trim work that you have around your tank.

I took some pictures of this sump, well before it ever ended up in Ryan's hands.

It is gorgeous. Here are three larger images:

I'm sure you'll like your next (new) sump very much. And your Oceanic stand won't need to be modified at all. :)

Ryan,

As much as you like the old sump I'm sure the new one will be just as sweet. Even better, perhaps, because it will fit :D

Nice skimmer. That's also a nice stack of SLS supplies in the background. I just got a Maristar and, sweet christ, that ballast is a beast.

See you at the swap tomorrow.

Physiatrist

Physiatrists are medical doctors who specialize in physical medicine and rehabilitation.

Physiatrists help people regain function (rehabilitate) after surgery, a stroke, or an injury. They may also work with people with issues such as pain control or regaining strength. Physiatrists often lead a team of health professionals that may include physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, and social workers, all of whom work together to improve a person's recovery from an illness, surgery, or injury. Physiatrists can further specialize in pain management or spinal cord injury.

A person generally sees a physiatrist in a rehabilitation hospital or outpatient facility.

Health plans vary in the coverage of different health specialists. Check to find out whether your health plan covers a visit to this health professional.

Physical medicine and rehabilitation specialists can be board certified through the Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, which is recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties.

Got to love the internet ;)

Wow, looking very nice. I'm tagging along to watch the progress. Makes me want to move down I-35, the DFWMAS seems like it has some great members with killer setups.

Ok, here is a quick update before I take off for this much anticipated DFW-MAS frag swap!!!!!:D

Here is my utility sink. I am going to hook up my R/O later today.

Here is a general idea of the progress of the room to date.

Perfect size room. Mine's going to be a little narrower so I can't fit extra QT tanks in there but I have spare rooms that I can use for that purpose. Your tank is 96x31x30 but it looks so much taller than it does deep. Is that because part of it is buried in the wall? The height is impressive and if the depth is the same (and of course it must be), that will make for great aquascaping. I think I've decided on similar height and depth but just 5' long.

Nice progress Ryan! I know it sucked to not get anything at the frag swap, but at least you got to work out the details on the replacement sump.

Nice sig. I'm glad you like the book.

The tank is 96x30x31. So it is 1' higher then it is deep. It looks as if the tank is flush mounted with the wall on the inside of the house. So with a normal stud being 3.5" and then to account for drywall, I would say that from the pictures (of the tank in the wall) you are only seeing like 26" of the tank from the back, because probably close to 4" of it is going through the wall...

Shawn

Yah, makes sense. That tank looks huge (because it is). I'm half tempting to redesign my house plan to fit an extra 3' on the tank. :D

Can't wait til you get that new sump and get the ball rolling faster on this master piece. Did David give you a time frame on the new sump today? I forgot to ask you in person when I saw you, how long it would take to make. Hopefully, he will rush it while at the same time still doing a good job for ya. I think he usually has a time frame of 2-4 weeks I believe depending on how busy he is.

Hey Ryan, I saw your corals today at Saltwater Paradise. The clownfish is still hosting in the Frogspawn. ;)

Sorry you left so soon today. We had a great meeting once the swap was over. Peter is way too impatient, imho, and should have stay for the elections, sea horse presentation and then the raffle. One person won a Lionfish, and the huge LPS coral went to Chris (extinguishfire), I think. That was a thing of beauty!!!!!!!
