A little coral emergency here, notice parts of the frag looked eaten up or dissolved. This frag looked good till I cfame home this after noon to find this... Its a FIRESIDE ACRO from DF&S.... Some one please tell me what the heck is going on here... I hope its not FWE or RTN...

Its the bottom front where it looks white/brown and eaten up (flesh part).. and some that havent been eaten looked brownish and dried up...

The flesh part where it looked eaten up or burn off is colored white/pale cream to brownish..

Should I cut where the problem part on the frag ends and place the good part thats left somewhere else and toss the messed pieces ????? Here's another pic from far away... but you can clearly see a chunk of flesh missing from it it the bottom front part of the frag.. the frag is on the fight middle part of the picture..

from my experience stn/rtn normally goes in a somewhat band/ring-like formation, usually from the base up the coral.. and generally the skin can be seen literally peeling and fluttering on the stn/rtn edge of the coral (versus no skin at all.. higher chance that something's eating it..)..

can't tell much from the pics, but seems like the bad patch isn't going around like a ring around the coral base and there is still some okay live of the coral all around it, including where it is encrusting to the base.. which to me generally means not stn/rtn (though if its rtn/stn'ing i feel like it goes faster at night .. so tomorrow may be a different story.. :( ). also, generally stn/rtn show bone/all white on tn parts.

could be something munching on it, or something touching/irritating (though doesn't look like anything coral-wise would, i'd watch out with the gumdrop goby in your sig though for sps in general, as they like to 'nest' in sps and seem to stress/kill sps tissue locally around their favorite perches)..

how long ago did you get your frag? maybe to be safe, do a iodine/tmpcc dip for a bit and see if anything falls off, then place back in.. if still tn'ing then try to frag off a little more above the deadline (better chance of the tn not jumping onto the rest of the frag.. as seems to move underneath a bit faster than is evident on the surface)..

I did manage to cut 1/2" or so of the good parts of the frag and move it across the tank... but will continue to monitor the frag thats going bad... The only things that I have added recently to this tank are a couple of new LPS and 1 sps but all were insanely dipped in LUGOLS... and just added 4 new emeralds a couple of days ago... I even viewed the tank for while last night when lights were out.. did not see anything out of the ordinary and all other SPS's look good.

Glad I stumbled along on to this thread; I have been having the same type of problem with the exact same coral that you have from fosters as well, it just seems to be going downhill slowly.

Funny thing is none of the other corals are affected...? but compared to yours mine still has the colors... hmmm.. hopefully it dosnt go that bad.

I have had it happen this way several times. So I would not rule out STN. How long have you had the frag?

a couple of months from Liveaquaria. was the best coloring coral I have in this tank... has multiple color on it... I've already fragged a portion of the good stuff and will be having my friend take care of it in his tank and grow it out for the time being.

I've had a piece of 2 of other sps that I got from the swap a couple of months ago STN on me.. but I cut them off right away and were able to save the good ones that were left... but an unfortunate run it with a large RBTA... took out 90 % of that coral..

None of the rest of my corals seem to be affected either; this one matched your description of what is going on 2 weeks ago and now looks like it does; I hope yours has a better outcome than mine i am ready to pull this one from my system.
