A Little Update

Last night I tested the Ammonia and Nitrates. Ammo was 0 and Nitrates are slowly going down as they are a little darker than a 20 but not quite a 40. ..so we will say a 30! Still way too high for me but much better than the 80 I was getting before. Going to do another water change of 5g on Thursday or Friday night!

Also received a small frag of baby Pulsing Xenias which seem to be doing well and a teensy tiny mushroom frsg who still seems mad about being cut and has only extended a tiny bit.

One of my toadstools are much more purple than ever very pretty! The other toadstool we have noticed has grown a lot but only extends about half of his polyps it seems anyways. He is a bit more sparse than the other one. Photo to follow.

The mystery coral looked a little bigger last night too. I haven't investigated him much yet but here is a pic of him being squished by my zoas.

All good news, keep up what you have been doing

Are you sure you like Xenia? I ask because they can take things over in a real hurry.

I do love them and I know you've got a point. Is it possible for me to isolate them on a small rock or keep their numbers under control on the rock I've got them on?

Forgot to mention I received the frags from Bett as a trade for all but one of my freshwater inhabitants!! Thanks again Bett! Hope the fish are doing well!

The fish are looking great. Thanks again for the trade. :) I hope the little mushroom stops being grumpy. I couldn't get it to attach to any substrate at first, but it finally took hold of that tiny shell last week.

You can isolate the xenia on a rock and it should be fine there. I have my larger xenia stuck towards the back of my rockwork. It's grown considerably in the months since I got it, but it only recently started spreading a bit to nearby rocks. The stalk will stick to any rockwork it's leaning against, so as long as it's sitting alone on an isolated rock it should be easy to manage.

Ah well then it may be too late .. I think it may have already stuck itself to the side of the LR. Will have to double check later. No biggy though - I've got my LR separated anyways.

It shouldn't have stuck that quickly. It usually takes 2 days or so. You can gently pry it off and it should be fine.

Okay cool. Will check it out when I get home. I was shocked at how big they actually are! What kind of flow do they like? I have them in med-high but want to be sure that's okay for them.

I stuck mine on the low flow side of the tank. I originally had mine in a higher flow area and they didn't pulse at all, but as soon as I put them on the other side they were pulsing within a few hours.

Xenia is fairly easy to keep in check as long as you make sure to keep wn eye on it. I have some on the base of my rockwork and keep a powerhead directly over it. The higher flow seems to slow the growth in my tank. And once it starts splitting I take my coral cutters and snip the piece of rock that the xenia is on.

That's cool Bob. Mine aren't pulsing as much this afternoon....I wonder why?

I'm having a diatom bloom again...what the hell? Although I did fall asleep with the lights on last night....so altogether they were on about 12hrs or more ...whoops. Could that be the cause of the diatom?

Fed some Mysis Shrimp today. Only the second time I've fed it to the tank and today i noticed that my clowns don't like it! Its Hikari Bio-? Mysis Shrimp so they say it is ultra clean and it really is actually. The water it produces is clear.
Anyways - does anyone else have clown fish who don't like it? I got scared that they were sick or something so I offered them their Formula One pellets and they ate it right up.

My other clown fish question is: should my Ocellaris be darker/blackish on their backs? I've recently noticed that they both have a darker colored back.

The color is normal on the clowns and the algea grew from the lights being on plus extra nutrients got to get a timer on those lights need the tank to be stable also the fish might of been freaked out from the sun not going down that they aren't interested in trying somthing new so you could always try it couple more times also if there tank bred they might not be use to mysis so they need to take a liking to it if you know what I mean

Easy way to tell stick a tiny peice if food on its outer edge and see it the feeding arms pull the food to the center of the body I think it's cool how they feed

Idk if that's possible due to the way he is positioned unfortunately!! But I do plan on getting a syringe so I can target feed him :)

My clowns only eat pellets and they love them, they are the new life spectrum Thera. My other fish love mysis, brine and cyclopeeze but the clowns ignore all of it just go for the pellets.

Well it seems that my mushroom is a goner! Poor little baby mushroom :( He was just a lil guy and I believe my Emerald Crab must've eaten him cuz there's no trace of him having ever been on the piece of shell he was glued to.

I had a feeling this could happen as I've read mushrooms are a favorite treat for the emeralds and this one was just the right size for him (about a half a pencil eraser's circumference). He must've thought I was serving it to him on a platter! LOL!!!

Also - should I be scooping out molted body parts I see from the crabs and shrimp or do they eat it themselves?
