Based on the blue/green silicone, I'm guessing the bottom pict is the regular glass?

I would definatly hang the light from the cieling... Sunlight Supply 2-Point is what I use and I love it.

As for the stand, contact Joe's Wood Works here in Buffalo. He's currently making my stand and doing an amazing job to say the least. :)

--hanging the light fixture would be idea, but can i tuck away the ballast in the ceiling joist?

--i live in syracuse now, joe will be to far for me. would love to see build picture of ur stand!

Lang, Dave at ABC does great work. He did all the woodwork at the store. He's built countless stands for customers, as well as his own home's 210. Can't hurt to have him quote you a price.

my thoughts on Miracles:
for those that are not aware the build of this cube took serveral days, maybe 3-4 days, and rushed delivered... this rush was becuase i needed it done this way for xmas eve delivery

the day after i recieved the cube i found the corners seems to have bubbles, some more than others, i immediatly contacted derek, after sending him some pictures he concluded that the silicon did not get a chance to cure, possible due to it sitting in the truck in this cold winter weather for a ~4 days... he then said that he can build me another tank at no cost to me, that he will give me credit for the entire order, that there will be no shipping charges, at this point i was estatic!! so good to hear a company, i imagine Miracles is a small one, to take the lost to make a customer happy. through all this i did not sense the "blame game" from derek, in my mind, Miracles is 2nd to none.

at this point, we took the oppurtinity to upgrade and redesign the tank :)

what changes did you make ?
What ever I do I can not get the overflow profile drastically smaller, therefor slighty smaller overflow foot print, and upgraded to a 4x4x2 :) there goes serveral more fingers :D

do they want the old tank back ?

I am not sure how, but the tank has to go back.

At the moment we are building a stand, I am learning a lot about lumber, thats its the wrong material, and that I can not cut them squared!!

4x4x2??? 240gal? Nice!!! Also good info about the company! No advertising quite like satisfied customer testimony. I haven't been able to get a quote back from them yet. They want a diagram but I'm not sure how I'm supposed to come up with that. Seems silly if I just want one of their standard (non custom) tanks.

its going to be the worst stand build ever! :D

I just want a standard 180. 6x2x2. They want to know where I want the overflows etc. I'm not computer savy enough to whip up a computer animation.

Looks like your stand is off to a good start. wrasseman might be able to pretty it up for you though. He does good work!

looks like a great start ! if you are going to have a sump i would consider removing the two lower braces that go across the botton unless you are going to build a floor on top of that .if you need help covering the stand to make it look awesome please PM me and i can help .

i took out the center frame supports and side center support and wonder if it is good to support the tank?

Looking good! I have a good source for inexpensive, custom sized MDF and wood raised panel doors if you need them.

Is your tank designed to be supported only by the perimeter? If not, I might put back in a center support.

The weight of the tank will be distributed along the black plastic edging on the tank. Never hurts though to have the center braces in place.

thanks!

is your source for custom size MDF in syracuse?
i am actually having a issue with the stand top as my drawing calls for a 52"x52"x3" piece. went to lowes and found out they only have 48"x96" sheets that i must glue together to get my hieght but can not meet my length and width. i might have to cut 4x 48"x48", glued and then trim as much as i can.

sounds like a plan, putting the center support back asap,

the framing is going to look much worse now becuase i have allready routed the skin, i should have left it in :D

here an pic with the side "trim" installed:

This is gonna be an incredible tank!!! Just remember to keep your hands out of it Lang and let your wife work her magic!!!

Lang try calling Syracuse Forest Products (a division of Thruway Hardwood Plywood), they may stock 5 Ft wide sheets of plywood.

Why do you need a 3" thick top?

I've used Lakeside Moulding (www.lakesidemoulding.com) and Scherr's Cabinet and Doors (www.scherrs.com). Neither are local but the doors shipped fast and were easy to order.
