A. Percula and A. Ocellaris crossbreeding?

Has anyone else out there witnessed this? I have this pair of clownfish:

I'm fairly sure one is an A. percula (female) and the male is an A. ocellaris. These two have produced viable eggs many times, but I've never tried to raise the fry.

Let me know if I'm mistaken and you think these two are the same species.

sorry i can't help with your question but to add some icing to the cake...that's an onyx percula clownfish. that's not a common sight specially if you have a mix-breeding pair! awwesome!

It's not unheard of. I sometimes wonder if they have cross bred in the wild or aquaculture because they can share so many traits. The spine and ray counts are supposed to be different, but frankly they are the same so many times it's not funny. About the only way to tell an A. Percula from an A. Ocellaris is by the differences in the eyes.

If you decide to raise the offspring and get rid of them. Please do us all a favor and make sure that you let people know they are hybrids.

That is a nice pair, an Onyx and an Ocellaris, cool. I wonder what the fry would look like. One of the "theories" (doubtful) as to how black A. Ocellaris evolved is thru a pairing like this.

Hm. Makes me wonder what we would get crossing an Onyx Percula with a Black Ocellaris.

Yeah - I could see it becoming impossible to determine species if crosses like this happen a few times.
