A pic of my 75 g today 1 year details.

Unfortanetly it is time to start fragging. Especially my Monti Caps, I liek watching everything grow huge.

Looks great. I really love the larger soft corals. Makes me wish that I could finish my tank and get it up and running!
Do you sell your frags or give them to LFS for credit?

I do not know people locally with reef tanks, and I do not get credit at LFS, I do not really deal with any place locally. I havnt had to frag anything really yet, till now, so I do not what I will do, maybe I will frg large pieces and sell them on ebay?

Maybe take some of your really great pictures to a couple LFSs and see if any will give you any credit. Seems worth a try. Also seems like they would be pretty stupid to not want to work with a hobbiest in their area that they could sell products to in the future.

Tony,
As usual, your photography is stunning. I'm not sure how you got the clownfish and anemone to sit still for this photo:

That tank looks great!! Nice Job!! My husband and I recently purchased a 74 gallon tank...we had some fish but they all passed away. We have decided to take it slow and concentrate on buying some coral. Do you have any suggestions as to where to buy?? etc internet??

Since the fished died we changed 30% of the water in the tank and check the salt level which is fine but the tank is cloudy. Any suggestions??

Thank you,
Toni Lynn

raterb, that pic was taken with flash, I wish the clown were more focused

mackduke, need lots more info, how long has your tank been running?live rock?etc....
Corals on the internet I like, are:
Dr Mac
Cquarium
Phishy Business

The tank has been running for three months but the other day my husband decided to add more sand and do a water change but instead of using premixed water he used tape and than the tank was so cloudy that it killed all the fish... so that's when we took about 30% of the water out and added back premixed seawater. It's much better but still a little bit cloudy...

Sorry we do have live rock... right now there are only some janitors in the tank and one anemone plus a toad stool mushroom leather... which seem to be doing fine.

mackduke, all i can say is take it slow. I tired to post everything I have done with my tank as I went in this thread.

The new lights and canopy have raised tank temp when the MH lights are on 1 1/2 degrees. So I have removed my 3" fans and replaced them with 4" Ice cap fans. So I will see if these more powerful fans help. They are nice fans.

Keep us posted on the change of temp. I was wondering what the addition of the MH lamps would give you. Hopefully the larger fans will help keep the temps down. Also keep us posted on the amount of increased evaporation you have.
Thanks :)

This morning at 8:30 am the tank temp was 80.6 , it is usually 81.4 at this time with MH on. So the IceCap fans are helping a lot, but I also switched T4 pumps this morning too, from one running for 5 months to a freshly cleaned one, I have found in the past that when a T4 starts to get calcified it adds even more heat then usual.
The real test will be later in the .

Tank temp update;
Since adding the 2 4" temp sensitive Ice Cap fans :
The fans are set to turn on when the lights first come on in the am and turn off when they are out, just like my old 3" fans.
In the morning before the lights and fan are on the tank temps are 80.8 at 6 am , then after 6 am the VHO come on with the fans, then at 7am the MH come on. At 8:30 am with the MH on 1 1/2 hours the tank temp is 80.4 , when I used the smaller fans the temp would be 81.5 by this time.
I am not home in the day to see what temp the tank stablizes at , but I will see on sunday when I will be home when the MH turn off. It looks like the Ice Cap fans are more then enough for the two 175w MH so far.

Its hard for me to judge the evap rate. I have a 35 gallon container of RO water that I use for top off, that is dosed by a Liter Meter III plugged into a float level in the sump. The Litermeter is set to dose 2 1/2 gallons a day of topoff water, and I have not had to change that, so it is not evaporating much more then before, which is strange because there is a lot more air blowing in the canopy now and I had an acrylic sheet over 3/4 of my tank before to protect my VHO lights because they were only 2-3 inches above the water, now the top of tank is open.

hmm, thats wierd that your evap rate hasnt increased substantially. when i added the two 250s i went from 1 gallon a day (VHOs in canopy) to 2.5 gallons a day (enclosed canopy, with (2) 7" fans.

I have 2 175W MH and 2 110W VHO in my enclosed canopy(open back), with 2 3" fans and 1 rotary fan pushing air out. My evaporation is about 1 to 1.5 gallons per day.

maybe the rotary fans make more evaporation, or maybe its the 4000+ gallons of water movement i have. the surface tension is unbelievable. not to mention i modified my plumbing and my predrilled siphon hole ended up just above the water line instead of just below :rolleye1: that extra splashing is adding some im sure.

how long do you guys run your lights?

i run my VHO for 11 hours and my halides for 9 (8 each with an hour overlap at each end).

I also have a clip on fan on my sump that is plugged into a Reef controller so it turns on when the water temp is 81 , it used to always kick on, and could not keep the temp down with the MH on, but now with the IceCaps it never kicks on.
My VHO are on 12 hours, and MH so far are on 7 hours, I am rasing the MH 1 hour per week till they are on 9 hours maybe 10 hours.

My previous evap rate may have only been about 1 gallon, I am not sure, all I know is I have the Litermeter set for 2 1/2 per day and that has been enough now and before the MH , but with the level switch turning the litermeter off when the sump level was ok it may have been useing much less then 2 1/2 gallons
