A Reef in the Sky

I use both of those cyclopeeze products myself...I'm sure you've found out they do better if you soak them a few minutes in tank water then pour the freeze dried one or the stiff flakes in so they don't all float on top:thumbsup:

What kind of sand are you using? Are you happy with it?

Thanks in advance!

wow thats a great fish food selection.
Awesome Corals
and no that pic does not suffice we DEMAND a FTS LOL
Ok... some pictures shortly:)

Ahhhhh! :lol2: I love your tank. It looks great, I wish I could find all those corals around here ^^
Thank you. Yes, very fortunate here.

I would like a frag of each please!

How much shipped to 78747 ;)

That yellow acro is off the hook! It blows my mind the quality of sps you have access to. And it seems they are cheap too! Lucky....
No problems Clint. I think I got lucky with the yellow acro.

AMAZING TANK! And I absolutely love these corals, subscribed, also could anyone PLEASE tell me what the names of the above corals are? Thanks!:bounce1:
Thanks... some of them are named on the last couple of pages. Still need to ID a few more.

Hi I came from Hk and just want to say Hi, nice tank BTW. Every time I travel back to HK, I spend most of my time at Sai Yeung Choi Street to shop the accessory for my tank.
Hi and thanks for stopping by! Yep, that's the street. Lots of equipment there.

Actually I haven't been doing that. Tried it and it works great. Thanks for the tip!

It is KZ aragonite. I am happy with it so far. Not as white/clean as I would like at the moment but hopefully the arrival of snails at the end of the month will solve this.

Some re-arrangement of corals have helped improve the 'depth' look

Thanks for looking :)

I like your background so much I went out to a local vinly store and got a quote for something very much like it.

Thanks for the inspiration and idea!

Nice FTS! So are you all set on your fish stock, or are you looking to add more (if so what)?

I've always loved the Hippo and Yellow tangs... classic choices.

Great new shots V1.. Your tank is looking Amazing.. I remember when my substrate use to look that clean  Now, coralline is growing on it...

oh my word thats looking awesome
Thank you very much, glad you like.

Look'n good....time for a visit!!!! Have you conned the misses into the MP40's yet? :lol2:
Cheers boss. For sure... Well she did say the other day... and I quote, "I think we do need another Vortech"
Been doing some research about pros/cons and still not sure yet. They are very expensive and getting x1 Tunze 6055 my do the job.
Options at this stage, upgrade the current MP20 to MP40w ES or just get a MP40w ES. Then I could also get the battery backup too. The current tunze could go on the overflow then... partially hidden from view.

Thanks... No more fish for at least 1 month. But we (including the misses) would like 6-8 more. She wants the whole cast from 'Finding Nemo' but I know that is not possible. I'd really like one or two wrasses (6 line wrasse for sure) but scared of the jumping. Not an option for me.
Any ideas/recommendations...??
Yep, blue and yellow tangs were a must!! The boss said! :lmao:

I L-0-V-E THIS TANK!!!!!!! simple and perfect
Thank you

Thanks Jonathan, always a good sign. Looking forward to the arrival of the snails!

Question: I'm after some advice on the coral placement so far. Very few are secured so they can be moved if required. Would any of you reposition some. What about the yellow acro? Some have said it will need to be higher to maintain its colour. Just slowly acclimatizing it atm. No colour loss just yet?
Thanks

EXACTLY!!!!! Now ya think'n! Back to work Wednesday :-(

This is one very well thought out tank. I know that I may have a plan in the beginning, but then as the project progresses I lose sight of the original plan and make compromises. I commend you to sticking to your original vision and for putting together a tank that is nothing less than stunning. Keep up the good work.

Looks really beautiful.

I wouldn't put much more sps for a while. Would wait for them to grow. But you still have room for some LPS.

Definitively a dream tank.

Big Fan here.

V1, I would have to agree with Walter Costa, It's easy to overdo it and I think that once your colonies start growing out, it's gonna' fill out very nicely with room for them to grow. If you're going to add anything, make sure its something that you been looking for or just a rare piece to spice up your tank.. I'm in the same boat now.. I need to to start working more on my ground effects and start purchasing more LPS...

As far as livestock goes... I love clams (maximas/croceas) and would look into adding one or two of those, especially since you've got such a nice open sandbed for placement. Although, I've never kept clams under T-5 lighting (only metal halide for me), so there might be some people on here that can tell you whether or not you can get away with placing them on the sandbed or if you would have to place them in the rockwork.

For fish... you've got a nice selection so far (it looks like you've got the two tangs, the clownfish, the anthias)... some suggestions I have (from experiece of keeping them or having friends that have had them) would be:
> Orchid/Fridmani Dottyback (Psuedochromis fridmani)- awesome color, would fit into the Indo-Pacific scheme you've got so far, and the least aggressive dottyback I've found. Also can be kept in groups, which would look pretty cool.
> Randall's Goby (or any Pistol Shrimp Goby) with Pistol Shrimp Pair- nice little symbiotic relationship if you can get them to make their den/cave in the front of your rockwork.
> Long-nose Butterflyfish (Forcipiger flavissimus)- I've always loved these guys (although you already have the Yellow Tang), they add a "different-looking" fish and color; they get a bad rap for being reef-safe "with caution", but I've owned this fish before in my reef tanks and the worst thing he did was peck at the tube-feet of my sand-sifting stars from time to time. Plus, it is one of the characters (I think it was "Bill") on Nemo :)
> Flame Dwarf Angel (Centropyge loricula)- you can't really beat the bright red that this fish brings, but then you'll get some people that haven't had great luck with them not pestering their corals/clams. I've never had a problem in the past, but I've always fed my tanks really well.
> Flame Hawkfish (Neocirrhites armatus)- depending on what else you want to keep (i.e., snails, which this guy could eat or passive bottom-dwellers that might get bullied), this is another option for a nice red and good personality fish.

There are plenty of good ones out there, but the ones above are some of my favorites.

Thank you Maxwell, yes... it has been difficult to stick to the plan at times. Wanting to rush and not be patient is very difficult.

Thank you Walter, really appreciate it. Will be slowing down for a while. Will keep an eye out for some clams though. Someone told me to get a leather coral as they are a great indicator of water parameters. Any ideas what would be best to get? I know that there are some really expensive ones.

Cheers Jonathan... very true. It easy to get overwhelmed when there are so many pieces in front of you to choose from. :fun5:
As for rare, not sure... any ideas/choices?

Tank is looking great!

Firstly, thank you so much for the kind words and the great ideas/info.

Clams are definitely on the agenda, and will be located around the island on the sandbed. Scolys and Acans also but no rush for them just yet. $$$

Some of the fish you mentioned I had considered. Since rock work is limited and most hiding spaces have been taken up by the current fish I may have potential trouble here... not sure though. No fish seeks refuge under the island yet.
The orchid dotty-back looks like a potential contender. I may take a chance with the Dwarf flame angel too but will do some more reading on the Hawkfish. A Goby fish would be great but not sure as the sand bed is very thin and the aragonite sand is largish in size. Would this affect them?

Contenders so far and estimated entry time,
x1 Orchid dotty-back (late June)
x1 6 line wrasse (late June)
x1 Dwarf flame angel (late July)
x1 Mandarin (Sept)

Still looking for a few more...

Thanks everyone.
