A Reef in the Sky

Hello,

the thinks in the red Circle might be Convolutriloba retrogemma. Its not realy a Planaria better to say Turbellarien. They need Silicat to grow and survive. May be you can push down your Si with an adsorber. Other solution is this snail. Only eats red Turbellarien but dies if all worms are eaten.

by the way I Love you setup. Good Luck for the future.
Thank you for that info. I will remember that for the future as I think I've seen them here.

Andrew I hate to be a party pooper but those look like AEFW to me, especially since you said you scraped off eggs.

Did you dip your corals before introducing them into your show tank?
Hey Clint, not really sure now? Yeah.. all corals are dipped before being introduced.

I have found fresh water dips do more harm than good. The only monti cap I tried it with did not do well at all. Good luck and great tank :)
Thanks for the info. Yes, not a good idea. :thumbdown

What Corals?

I asked you guys sometime last year what coral books you would recommend for identification and hunbandry. So I got these...

Aquarium Corals by Eric H. Borneman
Corals Of the World by Jen Veron

Some light reading :reading:

Predominately I want this to be an SPS tank but I plan on having some Acans and Scolys too plus a couple of LPS. These will come from my current tank plus I hope to acquire some more over time.

This will be an ongoing process... but below is what I have in mind at the moment. Always learning...

x3 Birds Nest Corals (x2 Seriatopora Hystrix & x1 Seriatopora Caliendrum)

x2 Club Finger Corals (Stylophora)

x20-30 Various Acropora (branching, bushy, cluster, bottlebrush, finger & tables)

x3-4 Monipora (Digitata, Tuberculosa)

x2 Porites

x2 Disk corals (Fungia)

The reefing community here in HKG is rather spoilt (IMO) from the vast selection of corals and fish available. Most are corals are small/medium collonies so I will have to be extra careful when introducing them. Out of interest, here are some pictures of some corals for sale from various shops here. [Pictures are courteous of shop owners prior to sale]

So I'm really excited once the tank is up and running to buy some corals...

what is the name of the shop that carries all those nice sized colonies and can you pm me the name and number or site so i can look him up i would love to place an order for some sps

Wow, I didn't think there were many Pilot reef keepers. Sadly, my tank didn't survive the move when I joined my current airline.

Do you have a wife/roommate that takes care of the tank when you are away? I want another tank, but I'm kind scared to leave my tank alone so often.

PM sent, the shop is in Hong Kong. Don't think he sends internationally.

Sorry to hear that... It certainly is challenging however I'm very fortunate that my misses takes care of the tank while I'm away. I usually have a schedule typed out ready for her so help avoid mistakes. When I say take care... this is what she can do if required (although most is automated now)

water top up
clean skimmer
change filter pads,
dose Zeovit supplements & purge stones
Knead carbon
feed fish and corals

Any major problems I'm a phone call away.

It's a little more difficult if we both go away on holidays. Fortunately another RC member lives near by and can take care if required... Thanks Boss

First of all...your tank is pristine and a very unique build from beginning to end.

I saw that you have the Profilux controller and recently purchased an ATO unit. Should the ATO unit not meet your expectations know that you have built in ATO capability with the Profilux unit you already have. All you need is the Profilux float switch and mounting hardware. I'm sure you have a power head and reservoir already as they are of course, also necessary.

Nonetheless, your build is "jawdroppingly" (yes, I make up words) beautiful.:D

I agree, you should sell the ATO unit and replace it the ProfiLux float switch.

Awesome setup, I love it.

u have done a fantastic job on your tank. I am well impressed.

Oh BTW - your wife is awesome:thumbsup: ESP since she cleans your skimmer cup. My missus wont go anywhere near it!

Thank you for your kind words. Glad you like the build.

Yeah, one of the reasons I went with the x4 doser unit was to utilize the ATO option. After some input from guys earlier on in this thread and giving it more thought, I decided it may not be able to handle the top up requirement as it would be running a lot. Anyhow, I will be trying both options to see which best suits.
Didn't know about having a power head in the ATO. What are the advantages of that?
Thanks again.

Thanks... will keep you updated. Summer is certainly approaching which means more evaporation!! :fun5:

:lmao: Thanks... I must admit, it's only the odd occasion, such as not being in town to do it myself.

any updates of the beautiful skytank??
Yep, more pictures shortly.

Thank you for looking! Yes, certainly spoilt here with the equipment, fish and corals.

Food, Snails, Corals & Pictures

Time for an update as the tank approaches 60 days old!

Food

I have been receiving various PM's inquiring what I feed the Bartletts so below is a picture. Also received Cyclop-eeze wafers last week. Always wanted this but can't get it here in HKG. The fish go 'nuts' for it!

Dryfood.jpg

Also feed Ocean Nutrition frozen foods too.

Snails

Placed an order for some snails which I can't get here in HKG. Some will go to a friends tank after a few months. Looking forward to cleaning the sand bed up! Expected arrival time, end of May.

x70 Nassarius Snails
x40 Ceriths Snails
x1 Peppermint Shrimp

Corals

Some new corals were bought over the past week. Always helps when you find a new shop you hadn't been too! Besides that, been mainly concentrating on keeping water parameters stable and monitoring the dosing requirements.

Of course some pictures of the new corals but I'm also after some clarification of things too guys. Thanks...

This coral seems to be going rather well after a slow start. I have always watched the base from day one and to my limited knowledge everything appears okay. What do you think about the area where the arrow is? Been like that for over 2weeks with no change.

Ahhhhh! :lol2: I love your tank. It looks great, I wish I could find all those corals around here ^^

I would like a frag of each please!

How much shipped to 78747 ;)

That yellow acro is off the hook! It blows my mind the quality of sps you have access to. And it seems they are cheap too! Lucky....

More Pictures

Picked up x3 new coral the other day. Being more careful with the lighting position... as you will see.

Hi I came from Hk and just want to say Hi, nice tank BTW. Every time I travel back to HK, I spend most of my time at Sai Yeung Choi Street to shop the accessory for my tank.
