hi v1, went to pro coral aquarium in lai chi kok and was able to get icecap ballasts, some mh bulbs & test kits. thanks for the info!!

Andrew,

This has been an absolutely amazing read. Your attention to detail and execution are impeccable and I really look forward to seeing where this system takes you. You should see good results with the KZ tubes, they're fantastic at bringing out nice colours.

Good stuff mate.

Firstly, sorry for the delays in my response.

as usual very very awesome
Thanks...

I've been following this thread from the beginning. What a result! An awesome looking tank with superb looking corals that exhibit beautiful colours.

Your tank and alongside Sunnys tank are two of my fav on RC. So much so that I am modelling my next tank along similar features (but smaller scale).

Your tank is truly inspirational. Beautifully executed! :)
Thank you for the kind words. To be included alongside Sunny is an honor. I modeled aspects of my tank on his work too

very nice...........

14 hours and Tak & Mimi will be here..........:bounce2:
All complete I see.

I've heard great things about the new KZ bulbs. Curious to hear your thoughts on them once they've had a chance to burn in. Well done.
Hi Tran. I have heard that too. So far I'm very happy and nearly bought some more bulbs yesterday. I also saw for the first time the KZ T5 light fixture in person. All I can saw is wow!!!

Nice to see you on GBD. Congrats!
Thank you...
For those who didn't see, my latest video made an appearance on Glass Box Design... even though the wording used 'puts down my tank'

Just caught up on this build. Super clean. I am so jealous of the coral selection you folks have overseas. Can't wait to watch this grow.
Thanks Jimbo... yeah, fairly lucky with coral and fish selection. Stay tuned for updates.

Beautiful tank, very clean
Thank you... I bought a new scrubber yesterday so hopefully it will cut down time cleaning the back wall.

good work bro. your video skills are improving and your setup and corals are amazing.
Thanks, I enjoy making the videos so much I'm considering getting better software. More experiemental :D

HI Andrew,
great setup, nice tank. I am wondering do you have some problems with sand? I think it is a little bit dirty, or I am wrong? How do you find your starfish, is it good for removing sand?
Thanks. Yes... the sand has a 'stained' appearance. I put this down to 2 reasons so far. It took me a long time to acquire CUC and I didn't start dosing Zeozym until 3 months in. However since both have been used, the appearance has improved. The sand is starting to turning purple which I guess is a good sign.

Thank you

This is an excellente and great looking tank!!!!

I love it and im suscribed!!!
Thank you, welcome

Cheers Syed!

Cheers mate! So far I'm happy with the KZ bulbs... although slightly more expensive. Hoping to show some coral growth comparisons soon.

To make it more obvious, yes we really like this tank and in fact there is little to dislike.
:)

Update

Some work has been carried out on the tank over the last couple of days. It was supposed to be a simple weekly water change and replacement of zeolite stones but it turned into a lot more

I decided to get a few extra things done which I had been putting off for some time. These included, cleaning the sump out thoroughly, re-routing power cords to make the appearance better and setting up the ATO using the GHL.

Problems arose when I couldn't open the zeo reactor to remove the stones. I had this problem twice before and I guess it was the icing on the cake. Subsequently I purchased a new reactor (something I should have done months ago) and I am very happy I did.

An Aquabee 1000 pump connects easily with minimal space wasted. Some of the smaller stones can still fall through but I will monitor this. Will even consider using a filter pad at the bottom of the stones next time. Operation is so simple and easy. The misses is very happy about this too.

The skimmer is performing really well and is super quiet
IMG_7118.jpg

I will make more of an effort to keep the sump cleaner

With the removal of the old zeo reactor, I had a spare Ehiem 1048 pump. It has been placed in the skimmer section to create more flow and reduce dead spots. It can be seen behind the skimmer pump.

Latest water test results (one day after water change)

Temp 27 - 27.5°C (GHL)
SG 1.025 / ppt 33 (Hanna)
PH 7.8 - 8.1 (GHL)
No3 0 (Salifert)
No3 undectable (La Motte)
Alk 125ppm (La Motte)
Po4 0.05 (Hanna)
Mg +1500 (Salifert)
Ca 450 (Salifert)

Fairly happy with these results. ALK is the most important to me. Ca & Mg are high, maybe due to the water change and not thoroughly mixing the RBS. I'm suspecting the Po4 has jumped from 0.02 - 0.03 as a result of me stirring the sand and cleaning the sump. Time will tell :hmm1:

Andrew, your tank is absolutely beautiful!

Your attention to detail, the quality of the equipment, the coral selection, clean and modern look, the minimalist aquascape and even the choice of fish is superb.

I got to tell you that this is my kind of project.

Beautiful!

Keep the pics and vids coming please.

André

Excellent new reactor man. How do you find the difference between the old one and the KZ one?

Very nice! how do you like the Zeo system?
Really like it so far. Simple to use and I couldn't have asked for a better start.

I think the corals will answer that question.
So far so good... time will tell though. Be sure to update us on how the new bulbs work for you Clint

Thank you André... it means a lot. Much time was spent researching before choosing equipment and setup method.

More pics and videos to follow soon.

Yeah, I'm happy with it so far. Is is much easier to mix the stones, easier to change the stones and it takes up less room in the sump.

stunning as always buddy! :) i very much regret i wasnt able to visit you and see your tank in person when i went to hongkong...

btw, mind sharing what zeo additives youre dosing now. aside from zeobac and start2. TIA.

greatful to you as always.

Vic

Does anybody know where in US can I order a print like that for 6 foot long tank?
I tried Kinko. They did not have a clue how to do that.
I guess the trick is that it need to be sticky and the size of course/

I'd check a local sign store. Pretty sure they could do it.

Hi Vic, thank you. Don't worry... there will always be a next time.

Currently I dose the following

Start2: 0.2ml x2 daily
Zeo Food7: Mon/Thurs x3 drops
Zeo Bak: Mon/Thurs x5 drops
Sponge Power: Mon/Thurs x3 drops
ZeoZym: Sunday 1/4tsp alone in 1/2ltr. tank water
Coral Vitalizer: Tues/Fri/Sundays x5 drops

I am in the final stages of confirming/researching x3 more supplements.
I may start to dose B-Balance and Iron, plus might start adding 2ml of PCS to the 1/4tsp ZZ/0.5Ltank water mix to help whiten the sand.

Hi, I sent many e-mails out late last year to various shops in the US. Most stated they could not do but one said they could. Try these guys and they might be able to help.
Aquarium Background Sticker
I didn't go with them because someone was found here in Hong Kong.
Hope that helps and good luck!

Many options in the US for sure!

What effect do you notice with the ZEOzym on your system mate? I'm trying to compile a list of what "extras" to get and zym is one I'm not sure on yet :)

I have noticed that my sand is getting cleaner and cleaner with time. There was some sludge, algae on the sand some time ago but ZZ appears to have helped break it up. I have just ordered some more products with one being Coral Snow. I have been told that mixing dissolved ZZ [1/4tsp] with some tank water (0.5L) then mixing 2ml of PCS for a minute with it, then dose the mixture into the display, will 'clean'[white] my sand. So I'm looking forward to trying it.

ZZ is rather pricey but so far appears to be doing a good job. Here is a list of some other products I ordered (new and replacements). Will be trying to tweak some corals colours if I'm lucky.

Iron Concentrate 50ml
KZ Coral Snow 250ml
Pohl's B-Balance 250ml
ZEOstart2 250ml
PotassiumIodide Fluoride 50ml
ZEObak 50ml

Hope that helps

Hey Andrew,
Do you siphon your sand at all during maintenance? Is that a recommened practice for Zeo sytems?
